My friends Raptor won't start. So pictures 2 girls in the garage trying to figure it out?It makes a grinding sound.I thought it wasn't grounded or something. It makes all the sound from the relay were the 3 wires plug in back by the battery. How do I know if that is the problem?Any help would be great. Thanks guys!

I'm not sure if this is the problem from what your describing but when my battery start's going dead it make's a buzzing/grinding sound when it tries to turn over. Try charging the battery and if you don't have a charger put it in the highest gear, push it down a hill, and pop the clutch and it'll turn it over.

Also if the bat is charged, getting good connection, smack on the starter a few times. My friend's Raptor, the starter wouldn't engage fully. A few smacks of a screwdriver handle got it to work!

Good luck!

Typical raptor, sounds like the starter went bad on it, what year raptor is it? Its actually quite a common problem with rappys

It's either battery too low and ticking or terminals are not tight...

or your one way bearing in your starter is out...normal on raptors....especially 03 and under.

raptors are known for having a bad starter one-way clutch. they say it was fixed in 2004. if it is bad look into a l&a one-way.
try talking to a few people at bluetraxx.com. they are very good with raptors

It is a 2002 Raptor.I have already checked all the terminals, and made sure everthing is tight.I will throw it on the charger and see what happens. We have to get it fixed we are going to Sand Mountain. How will I know if it is the starter?I haven't tinkered with electric start much.I'll try the pounding on the starter too. Thanks guys!

It's a 12V system, you can jump start it with a car, just be sure to hook it up correctly. Red goes on positive. That's the one with the little "+" sign on it. ;)

That will quickly tell you if it's a low battery voltage or some other problem.

When was the last time it was started? Do the lights appear dim when they're turned on?

What you can do is put the battery on a charger, when done try it again. If it does the same thing it sounds like the starter.

Not sure if you can do it on a Raptor on not but I quick way to see if the starter is turning is to put the quad in gear and try to start it. If the bike jumps forward the starter has enough torque to turn the gears.

Good Luck!
