View Full Version : Favorite Muscle Car of the 60's/70's

What's your favorite muscle car from the two decades that they ruled this country?

I'm planning on selling the 400 and my Sonoma sometime and I have been looking around locally and on eBay for any decent older cars. Just wondering what was everyone's favorite, maybe it'll give me a good idea for a car I should look for.

I've always been a big fan of Olds's 442, not the quickest cars, but they sure are nice looking. :D

Probably for me I would have to go with 71' cuda, 64-71' chevelle, and of course the late 60s stangs.

69 nova with a 468 with tunnel ram with two four barrel carbs and a .400 trans with .4500 stall:devil: ah sorry day dreaming :o

I pretty much like your gtx's and camaros, but I'm a sucker for a nova, me and my dad want to build another some day

you dont really want a chevelle or anything heavy if your making a street rod, you can spend a bunch of money on a motor that has 700 horse power but say you put that motor in a lighter car your going to run some good times and have fun on the street ;) if your just making a normal run of the mills car anything will do, gtos, road runners, mustrats, camaros and so on.. that and emitons(sp) are getting a little tight, but anything under 1975 you can go and have some fun ;)

All those cars rock. My girlfriend's dad owns a Riviera with the 455. He hasn't taken me for a ride in it yet, but when he started it up I almost had to excuse myself to clean my pants...I love the sound of pure muscle idling.

1970 chevy chevelle ss with the 454 big block....those cars are proally way out of your league tho...your looking at anywhere from 30-120gs for a 70 chevelle ss with original matching numbers

i like the functional induction hood the chevelle has...i want a hood like that for my truck...when you step on the gas the vent opens

I'll post pix of my dads current old muscle car later but his following cars have been:

1968 Blue w/White stripes #'s matching Chevy 327 4 speed camaro

1967 BIG BLOCK 427 Numbers Matching Black Convertible Vette

1969 SS 396 Camaro, Green, #'s matching.

Newer cars were
2001 Bullit Mustang w/500 h.p. in Steeda Products
1994 Convert. Dodge Viper 500 h.p. in Borla and Electronics

Those are only a few that I can remember off the top of my head. BTW these were all built from the ground up by himself and had a neighbor do paintwork. By far I like his current car a lot better than the ones i listed.

There was a '71 Nova for sale around here last year for around $3800, but it wasn't in the greatest of shape. It did have a 383 stroker and a ton of aftermarket performance parts in the engine though.

Mx Junkie-

About the lighter cars- Sure they had a lighter weight but when all you do is smoke the tires (think of nailing a Mustang off the line with a 289 4-speed thats modded, Goodyear rubber must really like you!)

With the heavier cars although it may not of had the tire spinning power of the light cars it put it to the ground alot more efficent. Think about a CR500 setup for low-end. It just has so much power it just burns out and you would probably be faster on a well built Cr250 in the woods because you would actually transfer some power to the ground and not just dig holes in the ground.

See my point?

Anyways one of my favorite muscle cars is the 428 CJ mustang and a 71 2wd C-10Chevy on bags with a 427 or 454 and a 4 speed would be sweet!

( i am building the chevy right now, only has a mild built 350 in it with a stall converter because anything else I couldnt afford insurance on!)

anyone got any suggestions on the motor or anything else that would be cool. as long as it doesnt have anything to to do with the body or paint im open to suggestions. im dead set on it being primer.

Yeah the AMX is a rare car. it has the 390 in it. My dad has one and it is still stitting in the garage. he keeps saying that one day he will put her back together (yes i said her, shes tempermental doesnt work for everyone). All of the parts are there and we have two engines for it. The original he still had and the one that came out of mine. His is froze up so he is supposed to put my engine in his. Well maybe one day it will happen, if not looks like i have work to do one day.

Yea that's what I heard after doing some research about the 289, a friend of mine was going to purchase an older Mustang with the 289ci. The owner said that the car was in perfect shape with no rust, when he stopped to look at it the floor was almost completely rusted through and he almost fell through when he sat in the car.
