So I am new to the site. I was wondering if it is uncommon to put a piston in a 400ex 2003. It started burning oil a little bit last week. It just has a T-4 slipon, a dynojet jet kit and a k&n filter. Thanks Steve

Anyone else? I have a warranty on it so should I replace the piston and sleeve and all? I was also planning on doing it myself. Should i get a 10:1 wiseco? Thanks Steve

if you have a warranty.. send it to the dealer and tell them its burning oil..

if you add anything other than stock in the motor, i would imagine it would void your warranty.

u really dont even have to mess with it unless its like fill it with oil check the gas! them 400's run good for a long time even after they start burning oil. most people cant wait to bump them up a little, so they tear into em, witch i dont blame em. thats all part of the life!

I just want to have the motor last as long as possible. I don't think I can bore it and still have the warranty(on the motor), but I may be able to get a piston in if I rebuild it myself. Is a 10:1 worth the money? Or should I go to the 11:1? Is there a good chance that the studs will stretch with the 11:1? I am just not sure what to do? I really want to go alittle bigger but with the warranty it just isn't possible. Oh one more thing, how hard is it to replace the piston, rings and sleeve on the 400's. I am pretty mechanically inclined with most tools at my disposal. Thanks again everyone, Steve

you shouldnt need to resleeve since your going with the stock bore.when you tear it down just hone the cylinder.if you have big scratches and gouges then you'll need to bore it over to the next size.if you have been doing proper air filter care you should be good.a 11.1 piston is fine, dont worry about broken head studs.as long as you have a manual a top end is a piece of cake.:)
