I bought an aftermarket oil tank for a 400ex and i can't get it to go on.I got it all to bolt up but then my headpipe wouldn't clear so I took it off and bolted up my headpipe and now it won't clear.any suggestions?

It might help if you told everyone what kind of tank it is and what kind of headpipe it is;)

ahhh the old um oil tank and headers... first off, take your headers off. sit your oil tank in, "do not bolt it down" lift your oil tank up slide your headers in, bolt your headers, slide the oil tank down and bolt it in. it's a hella tight fight, but it will fit. you just have to mess with it but the oil tank has to go in first but just dont bolt it in then you can move it around and get your headers in. hope this helped.

How does a bigger oil tank work better if its closer to heat? I know the heat is proportional to the extra amount of oil but if the tank is almost touching the headpipe it sounds like the oil tank would be acting as a frying pan. I hope I'm wrong.

It may be hotter I don't know I just bought it because i messed the stock one up and somebody had one on here for sale that was polished and looked better than the stock one so I bought it

Take note of how much oil you put in it. I'm curious as to how much more oil it can hold.

i had the same problem,it hold 1 qt more oil, anyways, remove headpipe, sit oil tank in there and slide up just like chino said, put header pipe in and blot down, then slide tank down and bolt on.it is really tight but make sure you put locktight on the lil screws that hold the heat shield on the tank.......hope this helps.looks like Chino had the same problem as me......that is why im going with curtis sparks fiull system

no prob at all man glad u got it on, i have lrd headers and it's still a tight fit, i think a sparks header would dam near clear it. it does hold 1 more quart of oil, but i usually put 2 1/2 qts of oil in, let it run a lil bit to get the oil goin through then add my last 1/2 quart. i've had the problem of it over flowing when i filled it b/c all of the oil was going into the tank and not throughout the motor. just my .02 cents gl on it :macho
