Anyone know how easy of a job it is to put a 300ex motor in a 400ex frame? Would I be lucky enough to have them just bolt right up? Or will have to do some fabrication and welding?

Thanks in advance for any info....Need to move the boy off the mini's earlier than I thought and I have a 400 already set up for MX that will work perfect for him.

it shouldnt be too difficult, the 300ex motor is physicly a little smaller then a 400ex, and a 400ex has more room between the top and bottom frame rails

I'm not sure about that, Isn't the 300 bottom end a lot bigger than the 400ex bottom end?? I know it looks that way.

maybe the 300ex engine is a little bigger on the bottom because it has reverse  more tranny components...

And also because it has to hold all the oil, the 400ex has a tank. Or wouldn't that matter at all??? I dnno, I have replaced a clutch on a 400, and on my 300 and the side case for the 300 seemed bigger then the 400's. But I bet the motor will fit in the 400ex frame.

sure the motor will definately fit,but you will have to do some fab work.its not a bolt in like the 250x/350x conversions by far.:)
