300ex Airbox - thing sticking up

Put my k&n in my 300ex yesterday, and it was a ******* because that plastic part sticking up.

I cant see that it does anything, do you guys just cut it out? I will have to take a pic to better explain it.

the only thing i can think it is for, is that originally for 250x's it had a stud sticking out of it to bolt the airbox lid down.

anyway, anyone see any harm in removing it?

alls it is, is a support 4 your stock filter. i ripped mine off when i put on the k&n so it would fit. so no it wont hurt it.

I don't have a problem taking my K&N off and on with that plastic piece still in my airbox. You probably could cut it off though if it bothers you since it doesn't serve a purpose anymore.

my stock fliter didnt bolt to it or anything, i think it does on a 400ex

anyway cut it off, and used the part i cut off to plug the hole. doesnt look too bad, and it is quite a bit easier to put the filter on now. I will post a pic when i go home.
