I have been searching around and reading things, and I can't find much on how this will run. Some people say it worked good for them, others say it ran like crap. I would buy an edelbrock, but they are to expensive for me. How do you think it will run with the mods I have done??

Well it's kinda too late now, I already bought the stuff. I just need some help on what size jets to run in it, and if I am going to be screwed with this set up, or if I will actually gain some power.

I am very pleased with how mine runs with the 400ex carb. I will have to say they are a pain to get jetted just right, and it has to be almost perfect or it will not run right.

I believe most people who are disappointed either have a basically stock motor, that dosn't need a big carb, or never get the jetting perfect.

About how many cc's are you up to with your 250? And what Kind of jetting do you have in it (stock kehin jet sizes), just so that I have an idea of where to start at. I have heard that a 150 main works well for a stock motor, so I am guessing that I will be up around 160 or something like that.

Right around 377cc's i believe, I have not done the math for a while. Every motor and carb is a little different, but I would say 160-165 would be a good place to start.

The 400 carb worked good for me.
I'm only .020 overbore with 11 to 1 Wiseco and Webcam,ported and polished I'm running a 155 main now soon to try a 158.
For the $$ this was a good improvement on my machine.

my buddy has one on his 300 and wow !!!

I would start with a 160 main and 42 pilot

Ok, thanks for the tips guys. Sounds like I need to get around a 158 or 160. If that does run right with those jets, then it's gonna make my motor run a lot better because I only have a 148 main in right now.

they work well and they're not hard to jet if you have a clue what you're doing. remember, with the smaller motors, like the 300ex, you may need bigger jets than the 400ex needs due to its smaller displacement creates less vacuum signal in the venturi. a 155 or 160 is a good start and 45 pilot, needle in third clip.

Ok, heres what I got so far. I put the carb on, and I took it for a ride up my yard with a 150 main and a 40 pilot, well it runs like absolute chit, i can barely get it to start. So I took it off and said the hell with it because I needed to go riding the next day. So I am wondering if I should just sell it and save for an edelbrock, or if I should keep it and mess with the jetting until I get it to run right. When I had the carb on it had so little power that I couldn't even pull the front end up in 3rd gear, the way it is with the stock carb, I can stand it straight up in 4th.

Jet it correctly and you should be pleased with the set up. Go to a 160 and 42 and see how it runs and work from there.

I also had on on my 300 & it ran GREAT for quite awhile :), then all of a sudden it just woudn't do anything we re-jetted a zillion times,air/fuel screw adjust a zillion times ;) LOL yes I'm exagerating but thats what it seemed like LOL but we come to find out that right below the collar(where the top screws on) it was cracked so NO WONDER I coudn't get it dialed in :(:( so I put my stocker back on & HOLY MOLY it was a TOTALLY different quad!!!!!! But I will say I was happy w/ the 400 carb, & if I come across another one for a good deal I will pick it up & try it again, Good luck w/ your jetting be patient :)

ok go BIG, the 160 we told you about works perfect in a stock 300 with pipe and filter, you have a 330so you will probably have to go even bigger, maybe 170-180.

Do you even know how to jet??? If you do well check the plug it will probably be pretty white. It's like they say, go big or go home.

you shouldn't need more than a 170, but you never know. try a 45 or 48 pilot, sounds like you're lean down low. then put in a 160 main. or you could put it back on they way it was and crack the choke open, if it runs beter that will tell for sure if you need to go richer.

Yea, I know how to jet. I had to mess around with my jetting when I first did the 330 kit. I will mess around with it when I come back from Aruba next week:cool: . After I get this carb on and running, I might stop putting money into my 330, and maybe even put it up for sale. I have been looking into 250R's, and I really like them, so if you know anyone who wants a 330ex, let me know.

i had the 400ex carb on my 330 for awhile, and tried every jetting range from 140-168 and pilots from 38-45 and adjusting the needle height and i could not get it right for ****, so i threw the stock carb on and it was like WHOA, now i have the edelbrock and we're working on getting it dialed in perfect. i say to stay away from the 400ex carb just cause of there jetting pain, but alot of ppl say once its right, its awesome, but im not paitent enough for that.

man jetting anything is simple, start with the slow circuit ( mixture screw, pilot jet) then the needle then the main jet. oh and your 168 was probably way to small for a 330. My freind with a stock 300ex with pipe and filter is running a 160 and he want to put a 165 in there cause he is still a bit lean

Dang you guys go BIG on the jetting :) I had a 155 @ the biggest point & it was RICH!! Could be the elevation though :)

Once again Good Luck :D
