I believe the limit is 50 inches, isn't it?
So add the extended distance to the current width of your quad and you will know.

Your stability will be better, but the shock will be too soft.

a lot of times people say that you will need 4-1 off set rims for a 400 ex to pass with plus 3 a-arms but when i looked close at mine i dont think that plus 3s would make it illegal. if you have the money id go plus 3s and if it was illegal get the 4-1 offsets because that will cut down on bump steer a lot too. i think plus 3s with 4-1 offsets would be ideal. hopefully ill be getting some of those after my season of racing production.

Before you spend the extra money on rims, check were you will be racing and if its not AMA sanctioned it wont matter how wide it is. This last weekend there was a guy with a raptor that had an extended axle and spacers. And they didnt do a thing about it b/c it wasnt with the AMA. If your racing ne nationals, you gotta get the rims.

Shock sag has alot to do with it apparently. I have +3's on mine and Im not quite at 50" w/ regular offset. Maybe this is because the shocks I run are PEP limited Mass and not ZPS so they dont sag as much.

In any event there is no way youll ever be able to run stock shocks with +3's no matter how much you weigh. If you dont have the money to get shocks, you shouldnt get +3's...

i agree, dont even think of riding stock shocks on the +3's. im running some ohlins off of a cannondale with +3's currently and those were great on stock arms but with the extended arms they bottom out pretty easily. im also running stock offset and i currently am around 48 inches at about half travel.

I'm runnin jrd +3's with 4+1 offset and zps LT axis and it's just about 49" wide. I can spread it all the way out to almost 52" though.

Yes, you can buy rims with different offsets. THey are measured from inside/outside. The 4-1 means that its 4" on the inside and 1" on the outside. This puts the hub further into the rim, which decreases width over stock, but is also the best handling rim out there. The further you put the hub into the rim, the less bump steer and more precise handling you get. Thats why offset rims, which have the offset the opposite way seem like a cheap way to increase width, but actually make your bike handle much worse than stock....

My +3+1 Burgards with ELKA SSD shocks put my quad at a max of 49".
