My buddy has a dg pipe,k&n filter(stock airbox), and an IMS 440 kit, will a stock 400 with a K&N and grinded welds be able too at least keep up??? If not what can I do to get it at least able to keep up with it in the woods. I have $200 as of know I planed on not spending over $300 on a mod. Thanx

Rumor has it that this kit is not a true 440 kit. A friend of mine had this kit and was not pleased at all.:devil

I will quote a gentleman on here..."95% is the rider and the other 5% is motor.

But, a 440 will run all over a stock 400. Mine is only a 406 and I can comfortably pull away from a stock 400.

I believe a 440 is not a motor you want for the woods, Its more of a top end HP motor. I read that alot of Desert, Dunes, and TT machines have that mod. Anyone want to correct me or have additional comments?

Hey guys, this is my two cents. I had a LRD 416 and loved it. Before I had the 416 I was beating all kinds of 440's, R's, raptors, whatever. BUT only in the woods. When it was a straight they blew right by me. In my humble opinion when your in the woods it's just about all rider and I've raced GNCCs and currently race Harescambles. I got the LRD 416 11:1 because I wanted more all around wanted more juice for the woods. It was quick, really quick and I didn't even put a cam in it. Now I have a 440. To me, I don't think it feels much faster on the top end than the 416 BUT it pulls really hard from the bottom. Much, Much, more low end for the woods. I weigh about 220 and it will just pull me up a hillclimb in second and even third if I work the clutch right. Now, I did not put a cam in it yet and probably won't because I am happy with what I have. But maybe a cam would would help with the top end but as I said, I like the torque from the bottom for the woods. That's just my opinion.

My $.02 on this subject is that : my 440 will walk all over a stock Ex in the woods or in the sand. If some one is a good rider he should be able to keep up on a stock EX with any quad any were period! The Ex is a awsome bike but it becomes even better the more you put into it.
