I had a skin graph in my mouth back when I was little. I don't remember all that much since it was years ago. If the place is relatively small, they'll just take some skin from somewhere else on your body and graph it to where it's needed. I've heard that sometimes doctors use graphs from cadavers on badly burned patients. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you'll get good medication.:D

..... ...... Wheres that vomit smiley that Jeff uses?

QJ, if its real deep, it will take a WHILE to heal from the inside out and it will look nasty while its doing it. Have you been riding with it like that......And don't lie!!:blah: If you have, everytime you get sweat/dirt in it it only makes it worse. I've had two good sized holes from chest tubes, and its very similar to what your talking about. It looks real gross on the outside and takes a while to heal.

I havent rode since Feb. :o .NOT... I cant get away with lieing about that on ... lol.. The burning a stinging pains Im getting are VERY painful, Im pretty tough( and stubborn at times!) you can see my muscle move inside the cut sometimes when I flex my leg . The cut is apporx. 2 inches long

I actually DID start to form a scab ONCE, then my boot ribbed it sore a little then it started to heal again then it stopped healing... I keep it very clean but the last few days I cant even have water touch it or I about pee my pants in pain! Im pretty nervous about going today since I have no idea what they are going to do or what to expectg, but I do know theres not much skin to pull both sides together to stitch it this time :ermm::eek:

Niiiice.:D How big is it? length wise? Inches? I'm pretty sure they won't stitch it up....... Same problem as the first time. Too great a chance of infection. Let us know what they say.

heres a pic of it the day after they stitched it up the firs time...like I said, Im thinkin they just simply did NOT stitch it up with enough stitches the first time with underlining stitches to make it hold .
Its about 3/4 inch wide 2 inches long. Troy said he found the meat still on his foot peg when they pulled the quad off the track... :eek2: lol

Have you used peroxide on the cut? Should look better than that by now. It still looks pretty nasty.

Tina, a few thoughts in no special order.

First, yes a skin graph hurts like hell!:eek2: Think of it like this, they use a cheese slicer like thing to slice off a thickness of skin from the donor area to use somewhere else on your body.

Both the donor area as well as the graph area will show a scar for life.

Two, stop doing anything that is causing that wound to not heal! Period!!:huh If you have to stop riding then do so!!!! You are only going to cause yourself more harm, you run a real good chance of getting a blood infection if you don't let it heal right! On this I speak from first hand experience!!!! !!! Been there done that!! Not a whole lot of fun!!

Third, seek the counsel of another doctor as far as the current wound goes. There is something that sounds fishy with the fact that a wound that was stitched up coming apart like that!

I had a cut very similar to yours in size and shape. The doctors used both under the skin stitches as well as stitches on the surface of the skin and just installed a drainage tube to allow the "stuff" to drain out while it was healing. It healed up fine in no time at all!

A hint. Get yourself some vitamin E capsules to rub on the scar/scab once it starts to heal. Just pop the pill open and rub the gel on the scab. It will help the healing process as well as make any scar the appears get smaller over time.

Sounds like some good advice;) Especially about getting a second opinion.

I had a deep wound on my 'backside' 12-15 years ago. It was a cyst about the size of a golf ball that had to be removed. They wouldn't stitch it because it had to heal from the inside out. I just had to keep it packed with gauze that was soaked in saline solution and change it a couple of times a day. It will take some time to heal and seal:p

tbnanks for the scoop!!

Well, I had a scare today, they ordered an emergency MRI today, my Dr. feared it went all the way to the bone(infection) Ive never heard of anything like that but he said it would have to be scraped and if Im lucky I wouldnt lose any bone! I was scared to death and went straight to the hospital for it along with many blood tests, thank God the bone is OK. I am now following up with specialist nest week so specializes in deep wound repairs, he said I would more than likely be starting from scratch and then some, also some kind of artifical skin stuff maybe , I guess they use it on people who are diabetic and dont heal well. Ill know more next week. What upsets me is a simply wound like this has turned into a NASTY hole in my leg .... :( Im now on 1850 MG. of antbiotics per day .

Ouch! Yes go to that specialist and do what he says. My stepdad went through that recently, Very deep wound from a cyst. It takes about 3 months to heal from the inside out. Keep those gauze pads changed. Hes doing fine now.

I am going through the exact same thing with my son who is 9 right now.He just spent a week in the hospital because of the infection. He was attacked by a dog 2 weeks ago.You need IV antibodics if you still have infection. There are these things called antirobes and they live under the skin.It is no joking matter.Your body will not fight these. You can get the drug by pill, it just doesn't work quite as well. It is called Flagel. The last thing you need is to graph it, that will only trap the infection in.Good luck, hope you feel better.:(

Scary stuff:( I hope things get better soon:)

Another story if you wish to read.....

Two summers ago my friends dad was unloading the quads by himself, by hand (yeah we called him a dumbass:p ) Anyway when he was pulling one off he stepped inbetween the grates of the ramp and mashed his shin against the metal rung. It gave a nasty bruise but didn't break the skin. Later on it got infected inside, had to have a large amount of flesh removed, almost the entire front of his shin.

Part of the healing process involved a sponge like material stuffed into the wound with a hose attached to it which was attached to vacuum like machine to suck out the fluids.

He now has a scar about 12 or so inches long on his shin but he still has his leg.;)

I hope yours doesn't go that far. Best wishes:)
