ill get pics and vids as soon as i can. we're headin out to pick it up here in about an hour. the guy at the shop said it was really fast. the owner of the shop also has a turbo rancher and a turbo 700. he gave us a demo of the 700 when we first brought the quad up there. he was goin down the road pretty fast blipped the throttle and it just popped a wheelie like nothin. just like you were riding a 400ex except it was a damn sportsman 700. the owner of the shop claims it will be almost as reliable as stock but we'll see. we keep getting problems with it blowing fuel pressure regulators but supposedly hes got that problem worked out now. as for price the production kits are going to be about 600-700 dollars i believe. the owner of the shop has a big company (that im sure all of you have heard of) that is going to sell the kits for him. anyways i will be back with as much info as i can later on

fuel pressure regulator? So did he put injection on it, or a fuel pump?

well we got it back here...rode it a little but not too much. its damn fast tho! ill get pix up as soon as i can..prob sat or sunday. after the big drag race sunday their taking it back to the turbo shop to put the final product on...right now we're using the prototype so its a little ugly but the finished one will have all nice powdercoated pipes and just look real good. i guess the price is going to be around 1800 but thats way cheaper than any other turbo kit on the market. id give you more details but im sworn to secrecy for the time being. pix soon i promise

how much boost you running and how much compression??? does it have any turbo lag?

Juggalo
04-29-2005, 03:21 PM
we're runnin at 8 PSI of boost. its adjustable down to pretty much nothing and up as high as about 20 PSI but we doubt we'll ever go any higher than 8 PSI. we're running 10.8:1 compression in it right now which i realize is high and i was worried about it for a long time but apperently everything is fine and the shop assured us it wouldnt be a problem. it does have a little bit of lag right off idle...feels a lot like my FCR carb..stumbles a tiny bit for a split second then just rockets off. its not too bad tho and if you roll on the throttle rather than just pinning it it takes care of most of the lag.

im not sure what kind of turbo it is...its really tiny tho..easily the smallest turbo ive ever seen in my life and they said they have even smaller turbos than that. its pretty crazy. its not intercooled which is a draw back but its not that big of a deal i guess cuz it still makes plenty of power. its not efi its running off a stock carb actually. the reason for this is so that it could be a bolt on kit that you can take on and off with little effort if you do desired. the way its set up works just as good as efi as far as a turbo is concerned tho. its got a fuel pump and pressure regulator and all that jazz so as the turbo provides more boost more gas is added so theres never any lean or rich spots while riding. as for the 700 ill see what i can do about that but i doubt i will be seeing much more of that quad ever again.

edit- i did find more info about the 700 on their website: http://www.atperform.com/polturbokit.html

well teh drags were yesterday. the turbo started out strong smoking a troy lee pred and a 450R. we noticed during those races however that the quad wasnt running nearly as fast as it was the other night. we took a quick look at it while it was in the staging lane and heard a loud ticking. well we think he broke a valve spring (they were the old stockers) so he raced it 2 more times getting progressivley worse but still keeping up very good with the quads even tho they pulled it out at the end. so its back off to the shop to get the head worked on and get the production kit made. they took some pictures but i have no idea when they will be up. sorry i didnt have as good of news as we thought we would to report.

it was the red lowered 400ex with skin graphics and a black frame. the turbo is not very noticable when the plastics on..you have to look close. i dont think tech even spotted it! he raced in class 17 but he was schedualed for class 18 too which i dont think he should have got into (mod 250 2 stroke mod 400 4 stroke). it was the class i was in too. i had the yellow EX with red frame. i got beat by that 250R with fullbore plastic and a 400ex with a DMC pipe.

edit- did you happen to see that purple lifted dodge diesel there with the exhaust comin out of the wheel well? thats the owner of the turbo shops truck. lots of people were gawkin at it. i think its ugly too but that truck runs a 12.1 in the quarter mile

You going again this year? Lets race turbo quads!!! Zuki Vs. EX

Wow!! This post is a year old!!

I wonder what turbo was used. You can not lower the boost from 8psi to "nothing" unless some type of wastegate or actuator with a "nothing" spring (3psi or less) is used. Low psi springs (3~5psi) have been proven to run out of strength in the 10psi range and cause nasty boost spikes that KILL motors.

Whatever happened to the pics that were supposed to be posted?

Yes its kind of funny nobody heard from them again. Probably still in development. This time with efi I would hope. "never any lean or rich spots" and through a stock carb "just so it's a bolt on kit so you can take it off" probably when it goes lean and folds the fins on the turbine side. or a valve spring destroyes something.
