Yeah just powershift it it makes it a lot easier. The quickest way to get comforatble is to purposely go over backwards a couple of times going kind of slow so you know where your point of no return is, then you will feel a little more comfortable on it.

pull in on the clutch, hit the gas, pop the clutch, and hold on to your *****

I found it easier to learn wheelies in 2nd gear rather than 1st. You just have more room to play with the throttle. I also think they are easier to balance in higher gears. To ride long ones you need to figure out shifting. The easiest way to shift is to play with the throttle, when you are revving out, play with it a little and hit the next gear when you cut back on the throttle, it should go right in. After a few times it will be pretty easy to shift. Just keep practicing.

me to 2nd is way better. i thought power shifting was not using the clutch just gas it and let it go and shift with no clutch. thats what i do even when i drag it

04-28-2005, 10:31 AM
Yes power shifting is using no clutch. You are correct Joe400ex. Good comment.

when ur going on the wheelie ,, if u are gonna go back just tap the back break and it will throw u forward... them just get back on the throttle and go. and the best way to learn is to practice ,, practice

just looking at this makes me laugh. My brother carried his wheelie a honest 4 miles down a road before burning the motor up. lol! he is truly the wheelie king of the neighbor hood.

And the broken bone king 2. lol!

i always pull mine up in 5th. i get going down the road and stand up then hit the gas and pull back. as it starts coming up i sit on the back of the seat and it will rise up to the balence point. then i slide up on the seat. i can ride like this till i get to a sharp turn. to turn i set my tires to 5.5 and lean real far to one side. its real easy to keep it up when your going 60-65mph

i had a 14t front sprocket and you can wheelie in all the gears. 2nd is the best to start out in though and you have good level ground you cand go for miles.

I can barely pop the clutch when i start out in 2nd gear.....it just stalls and if i push the gas too much....i flip. Is this b/c of the gearing change for 05's?

duke416ex

Don't take off in 2nd, take off in first and after you shift into second, or when you do, pop the clutch to get the front up, when you think it is going back to far, hit the back brake to keep from flipping.

Im the same way. I started out practicing in 1st, then second, and by the end of the day i was just doing them in 4th & 5th.
I also ride in corn fields. What a rush, when you can do fast wheelies. sometimes thats all i do when i go riding.

4. Feel free to attach ATV related pictures to you posts. Pictures of riders without helmets will be deleted - riding without a helmet is very dangerous and is an activity strongly comdemned by ATVriders.

Not trying to bring down the thread, but he's right. Wear a helmet. My first cousin was the most popular kid in the area. All state football, weight lifting records, had it all. And was a great guy. Had one mistake and hit a parked car on his quad. And got
brain damage. Now he will never be able to live on his own. Its doesnt just effect 1 life. But can hurt everyone around you in 1 second. I still ride like a madman, but the helmet always goes on. Arms and legs can be fixed, brains cant. Anyway on a better note Kick @#$ wheelies keep up the good work.

The faster you go the easier to control the wheelie!!;)

3 days ago i couldent wheele, I just found a up hill slope and bacame comftorble with the balence point. now I can ride across the whole yard no problem, it took me a while to realize the rear brake brot the front down. I knew it, I read it but did not aply it for a while.

good luck

You want to learn no handers, first learn wheelies good, and be able to use your rear brakes a lot. Then idle the quad way up and pop the clutch out, since it is idled up, all your balance comes from your rear brakes. You have to idle it up enough to keep it running when you hit the brakes, and low enough not to flip you over when bringin it up.

My 400 is stock for now and when I hit the throttle in second gear the front see the sky:D but when Im near the balance point,my motor rev alot and i need to shift in third gear

With a little help,im able to wheelie in third gear but its more difficult

With a 14tooth front sprocket that may help to wheelie but you will lost some top end

So the secret is to pratice;)

First you have to find the balance point when you are doing wheelies. It is all throttle control and back break control. I can wheelie my 450r from first to fifth and never let the front wheels touch the ground. I don't powershift either because you sometimes need to fan the clutch when your shifting throught the gears. I would practice on a very small hill so you can get use to it. It just takes practice.

i dont have a 400ex YET but right now i stunt a blaster. i found out that its really easy to have one foot in/on the grab bar and one foot over the brake. just clutch it up in snd and blip the thoratal or keep it at low RPMs till you find the BP and just hold it. its pritty easy after you learn, but its just getting over that fear of flipping or going to far back.

those were a while ago, and now with my PEP shock, it seems easier, alot easier:confused:

Once again i am aware of the risks and how stupid it was to ride with no helmet, that was a while ago, i learned my lesson a few days ago. The hard way.

05-18-2005, 07:15 PM
dont learn how to wheelie with one foot on the grab bar, it makes a sit down wheelie harder to learn. fisrt learn a stand up wheelie on a hill, then sit down,. then try the 1 foot on the grab bar. it is cheating in my opinion to have one foot back there. looks better when you sit or stard as well.

own3d
05-18-2005, 08:23 PM
ya, that too, but i only used the one foot grab bar thing to learn. then started to do sit downs, stand ups, no im on high chair andseat standers.
