I just bought my 400ex last weekend, i was wondering how you guys pull catwalks and stuff, in first gear i can pin it and it will pop up a little, then some other sites said you gotta rev it 3/4 and pop the clutch, could doing that ruin or hurt the clutch?

i just bought a 400 ex in sep of 04' my first quad ever. i really never tried doing wheelies until i had the stuff listed in my sign off done to it but from personal experience theres a million ways to pull a wheelie. i like sitting down, start by having one knee on the seat and the other foot on the grab bar and start in 2nd gear. usually about 1/3 to half throttle and pumpthe throttle and pull back. with in about 4 weeks i went from no wheelie to starting in 2nd and finishing in 4th and sometimes 5th gear shifting with no clutch between throttle bursts. my buddy does his standing up in 3rd gear and balances on the fulcrum point and can ride forever like that . whatever way works, practice makes perfect. good luck

agreed

practice makes perfect. On a 400ex its easy as pie, 1. lean back 2. Hit gas

I have a 300EX and all I have to do is give it gass and pull up on the handle bars. you should have no problem just give her a tug works every time. even in 2nd gear

the most fun way to do a wheelie to me is be crusen full throttle in 4th gear pull in the clutch and pop it in to 5th can ride one like that for as long as i so please and can do what ever i want it in like get on the bars and do no footed cans and sh*t but if you fall doin 75 it hurts alot more then if you fall goin 25 so keep that in mind;)

you shouldnt have to pop the clutch at all on a 400ex. i can be half way threw third and give my bars a jerk and nail the throttle, and ride it threw 4th on my 250ex.

put it in second and give it a little throttle and try to equal out the power and balance of your wheelies.

ive been in 4th next to a honda foreman doing 51 on his speedo and pulled and hit the gas and rode one by his side into fifth. with a little work on improving the airflow to the machine you can pull it up in any gear except 5th and never use the clutch. keep in mind i only weigh 160 so i don't have a ton of weight to throw with it. start in 2nd gear master that then start in to third gear and master that then learn when to shift between the gears( make sure rpms are high enough) then first and fourth are no problem.. that autta get you at least 200 yards at a minimum.
good luck

try all that with the knee on the seat foot on the grab bar till it's easy then work your way to sitting way back then work your way to normal riding position so u can see, before ya know it youll always be on 2 wheels/

sit on the handle bars and then push on the gas in 1st gear. If your not up in the air then check your bike, their is something wrong with it.

ARE YOU STARTING THE SUPERMAN OUT WITHTHE QUAD ON ITS GRAB BAR OR DO YOU SLIDE DOWN THE SEAT, THAT LOOKS BAD ***. I'LL TRY TO GET A PIC OF ME HOLDING MY FRONT BUMBER WHILE WALKING IT.

the knee on the seat thing is the worst idea ever. i see soo many bent rear grab bars and sub frame... because if your gonna go over chances are your foot is no where near the brake. this happens cause most of us stupid guys keep the shift foot down hoping to grab anther gear, baad idea

in second gear, just it the throttle and you will wheelie, take the balance point en shift the third

e way i figure it, get comfortable with it, try dufferent ways, and do whatever is comfortable. then start seeing what everyone else is doing and start trying more tricks

why do you need to shift gears? If you are in the balance point you should not need to shift cuz you should be holding the same speed. Also when i put a foot on the seat or knee, i put my other foot on the brake not the shifter.

yes thats the way it should be done but... i see people do it the other way to try and grab more gears.

Just takes skills very little of it is about the power just keep practicing pullin the front end up and you'll get it.

i agree, just do whatever is comfortable, try everything once as you get better, and you will be able to do some sic wheelies. it does take time though! and you wont always do a great one...
