i have a great project, im building a raptor! im new to the forums but have been riding for a while and have decided to build myself a nice bike. but here is the trick, i started from nothing. i didnt have a frame, nor an engine. i have been buying everything from ebay! its a pain in the ***. here is what i have so far:
686 with 12:1 compression, ported and polished, hotcams stage 2, hinson clutch basket, gytr clutches
stock frame that i painted blue
+2 +0 a arms
+4 axle
works shocks triple rate up front with rez, dual rate in the rear with rez
+2 swingarm made out of 4130 chromoly (guy makes them, seems real good but i have not received it yet)
burgard chrome anti ib steering stem
pwr radiator
oversized oil tank
fly handle bar
twist grip throttle
braided brake lines
sidewinder ti-moly sprockets and chain

i think that is it. i still need a lot of parts though, i will post pics asap (im at work right now) if you have any parts laying around let me know! any input would be greatly appreciated!

tater_kamik
04-27-2005, 05:56 AM
actually, yes it is! he is backlogged though and i will not receive it for another 2 weeks but the total with carrier was 400 or a little more. if i had been in a hurry it would suck but since it is going to take forever... do you know anything about tdub's products?

rap686
04-27-2005, 09:16 PM
no I don't I have been looking at them I have a +2" LSR used off e-bay on now but was thinking of getting a +4" from them for drag racing if you think about it please let me know what you think of it when it arrives. THANK YOU

Wow, the frame and everything looks really clean. Good job on everything so far, and good luck with your rappy. I want to see how this look when its all done, and any ideas on the color sheme for the plastics? and what graphics you might get? And are you going to keep buying stuff off ebay or maybe check out other places? Thanks and keep us updated!

i have bought most everything off of ebay, but i did buy my sprockets and chain off of sidewinder directly, as well as my axle from rocky mountain. i dont really mind where i get the parts as long as it is what i need! anyone got some parts or some places to get them? that would probably be a good thread, places to buy parts from and places not to

I got all the dash lights. What city in Arkansas do you live? I'll sell the lights for $20. I don't have the bulbs or the sockets. Just the lenses and the grommets.

Thanks for the info on the swingarm its what I was hoping to hear. I'll get mine ordered up shortly.

tater_kamik
05-17-2005, 10:34 PM
they delivered right as scheduled and let me know when they shipped with a tracking number! the packaging around it was excellent! tons of padding and it comes with nice hex bolts. i ordered mine with the carrier which came with the brake holder thing, everything seems to be wonderful with it. i wish i had gotten the open one though because i am going to have to drill a hole so i can gain access to the valve to grease it... definately recommend!

tater_kamik

works shocks are in! took them a little over a month but hey, they do look good! find out how good they are once i get my bolts in, etc etc etc...

Sheesh, putting a quad togethers supposed to be as clean as a surgeons table... not a fricken warzone...

Jk, maybe you should organize it a little.

Its looking mighty fine though!

tater_kamik
05-21-2005, 09:42 AM
warzone it is! i figure i will clean it up when i finish. i actually do have method to my madness, except for tools. since my old housemate took a bunch i no longer care what i do with this set because someone is always using them and not putting them back. cant wait to get a garage! appreciate it though. im going to work on it some more today, get as much as possible done and it will look cleaner around it hopefully :D

tater_kamik
06-01-2005, 05:38 PM
the swingarm is now on! i had to wait for the swingarm kit from pivot works. not too much in the problems department that a hammer and a few sockets couldnt fix. i have all of the parts i need except for an seat, rear hubs, and rear wheels.

tater_kamik
06-16-2005, 02:19 AM
i have put yet more crap on it, i have been held up because i moved! if it makes you all feel better, my area is now organized!!! i will take some more pics soon but i think i broke my digital camera  oh well, i am making progress and i am guessing 2 more weeks and she will be finished!!

tater_kamik
06-16-2005, 10:21 PM
i have a lot more stuff on it now than before, im just missing some stupid stuff now. i am waiting for a arm bolts and i still need to get an linkage kit. it is going very well though! im going to do an review of all of the people i worked with and companies when i am done. im going to work on it toight, i should be able to get the axle in and all of that crap on. i dont have rear tires yet so i am going to borrow them from my other quad once i get the raptor done until i can decide what size tires i am going to run. im never gonna move again! it sucks! oh well... my camera does appear to be broken, so i guess i will take some pictures with my crappy camera phone. :(

MadDog56
06-16-2005, 10:34 PM
If you're going to run MX I'd say 19 inch holeshots, otherwise a good 20" tire works great in most conditions. For the sloppier or rockier terrain I might go with 22" tires.

06-17-2005, 02:42 PM

Hey, I like how you painted the frame. Spray paint or did you get it PCed? Nice job dude!

tater_kamik
06-20-2005, 10:46 PM
spray paint!
you have to love some spray! :D got it at lowes, basically put it on fairly thick to the point where it looks shiny and smooth (right before it starts running) and then let it dry. i should have gotten it powder coated though, i found a guy that will do it for 150... oh well, live you learn!

tater_kamik
06-20-2005, 10:55 PM
i want the holeshots for sure, that is what i have for the front already... im thinking about an 19x10-9 mxr4... they dont make the hd in an 19" size, and i want to do a lot of mx with it...

tater_kamik
06-20-2005, 10:58 PM
of course if anybody has some good rears for sale...

06-23-2005, 08:14 AM
great job bro but just one question

why a raptor
y didnt u try makin like a 450 or a 480 or something,or maybe even like a 520 or sumthin

not tryin to start something but im just wondering y not a lighter more powerful quad:confused:

tater_kamik
06-23-2005, 10:35 PM
i was gonna work on it this weekend but i had a "piss off our new neighbors" party and i was a little too drunk to do much of anything... maybe i should have built a 450, maybe next time?!?i have always wanted a fully built raptor and i like the motor in it a lot. oh well, got my nerf bars in from albe with heel plates! look very good too! also got my linkage kit in so i should have the rear end minus rear hubs and tires on (unless i jack them off my other quad which i probably will)

06-24-2005, 08:27 AM

tater_kamik
06-25-2005, 01:01 AM
i will i will! once i get the rear end finished saturday! i did make more progress today on my bike, and i put the nerf bars on, almost. the one side went on fine but it appears where alba uses the two holes by the master cylinder will not work b/c of the position they welded the bracket on... no! plus the instructions were crap! they looked like they were printed on a printer that was almost out of ink. oh well, guess i hate to call and raise some hell.

tater_kamik

Is that the original Yamaha Blue? Or did you repaint it?

Are you going to paint the new swingarm?

I suggest since you buy off ebay like me to invest into the alloybolts stainless steel bolt set. They are great and don't tarnish at all.

pics will be coming up when my internet gets working  right now (and for the last month...) i could only use my work to get on exriders. but i have made a lot of progress! got a ton of stuff on now, just finished reaming my spindles, i have put most of my rear together, i just have to put the linkage together. exhaust is on, carb, intake, twist throttle, a arms, some of the electronics, nerf bars, etc. i ran into a problem with my chain that i ordered from sidewinder. it is too short but they are sending me the extra links. i still dont have a seat though! how sad is that? it is looking very good though!

If I rember right the swing arm is from T-Dub Racing. I bought one too and it is very nice. I ride MX and it has held up well. The only drawback to T-Dub is the wait (2-3 weeks) but for the price I can wait!!!!!
