400ex VS. 450r Which one do I get?

Hey guys,
I have a 300ex and am going to sell it and get somthing bigger this summer. I like the 400ex, but there are bigger and better things out there. The 400 is rock solid and will run for ever, but will get beat by alot of other quads. I have been sayin I am going to get a 400 but my dad says, "Why don't you just get a 450?". I ride mostly trails and I LOVE to jump. I do a 30 footer right now with my 300ex but I want to work up to 60 footers when I get somthing bigger. I don't want to race MX but I like to play around on one. My question is, if I buy a 450r, how long will it run with no problems? Is it like the 400 where it will just run forever, or do you have to rebuild the engine every year? If you do, how much does it cost to rebuild it? Cause if it's only 100-200 bucks that would be fine once a year.
My friend and I just went on a trip last saturday, (we are on 300ex's) and we thought we were movin pretty quick because we were passin tons of people. (including dirt bikes) Well then comes along a 450r and blows us away. Sweetest thing in the world. I want to be the one blowin everybody away. I want to be the one who wins all the drag races. I WANT TO BE KING! :macho ha ha ha

What do you guys think?

P.S. I know if I get a 400 I could keep up with a 450r if I do tons of stuff to it. But wouldn't it be better to buy one already "bored out, better suspension, liquid cooled ect..."?

a friend of mine has a 330 kit in his 300ex, he smokes 400ex's all around and he is neck and neck with the Z's

Depends on if your buying used or new... You can pick up a used 450r for around the price of a new 400ex. If you know how to keep a bike intact might even look into a used yz426/crf450 conversion:D . With that said.....If you plan on keeping it stock for a while then the 450 is a good choice for you.

I had the same issues on deciding for me i decided the 400 cause it has reverse (big thing in the woods ) and it will be fine and for bout $1,000 dollars more u get the 450 but for my type of riding the 400 fits me fine and ill probly like get a pipe or sum for now.

All I have to say man is to get what fits you best. There is always sombody out there with a lot more money into his ride than you. so no madder what you will find somebody that will smoke you in a drag. ride a 400 if it's not fast enough get the 450 either way they are both sweet bikes I love my 400ex. As for reverse, I think if you can't pick up and move your bike around you should,t be ridding it:macho

450 no ifs ands or buts. Stop listening to these weenies and grab that big ol CAM from the valves and look it in the lobes and ask it. Can we get it on? And I bet its reply will be OOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh YES! would you rather have 450 dollars or 400 dollars?

Gotcam's reply has to be the best reply I have ever heard to the infamous question of 400EX vs. 450R.

well if you ride trails i would get the 400ex. Reverse, electric start, and their not exactly slow either. If your riding a 300ex a piped, filter, cam, 400ex would be plenty of power.

you say for him to get a 450 like its such a big deal,,, somepeople will choose the 400ex over the 450r,,, thats why honda will keep the 400ex around,,, i own both and they both have theyre good and bad things

The keep the 400 around for two reasons. People who like to build motors and Fat people or Chicks.

fat people or chicks,,,, man you think to high and mighty of your 450r as i said i have both and ill never forget the 416 for anything or anyone,, they wont be just dropped to fat people and chicks,,, its kinda like the 250r.... remember when they came out,, the 450R will be like this someday too,,, itll be the dinosaur of the bunch,,, all quads have their timei will agree to that, but that wont stop them from sellin. or people from choosin 400ex over 450r,,,, for instance,, what if someone cant afford a new 450r?

I can't belive it You guys are crazy, For one gotcam you are obviously lacking in other areas if all you have to say is " bigger is better" and your mind cannot understand that " SOME" people buy Quads to there riding style. If you were so hard up on buying the fasted thing out there, you should have bought a two stroke because a honda 450r is not going to cut it. Don't get me wrong I won't buy anything but a Honda, but your statements are so close minded. Like I said before there is always someone out there with more money into his ride and hence, it will be faster than yours.:p By the way fat people should be riding ct70s HA! HA!
