ok well, this summer i am selling my 250 and going to get a new quad. i think i have narrowed it down to either a predator or z/kfx. i ride open trails, narrow woods some times, open sand flats and jumps here and there. i would like a quad with reverse so i ruled the 450s out

i want something that is good all around, handles & performs good, and with a little low end grunt to it for hills and woods. im guessing the predator has more power and speed over the 400, because of the bigger displacement. my friend has a 450 how do u think i could stack up to him on both quads in the woods?(we are the same skill level for the most part)

so what i want to know is, which one is more reliable, handles better, performs better and which is a better trail machine.

and out of these two machines, which would you get and why?

z/kfx, there not tanks like the pred but either way both are pretty good quads

I rode a pred, WOW those things are freaking beasts, Pretty comfortable DEF good for trail riding, They are awsome quads..I'd prob pick that over the others just because its faster..hah..but sit on them all, try and ride them all, see which you like best. :)

pred, it might weigh more then the z/kfx but you dont feel it with all the power it has. go with the pred

yes somewhat, but they are still pretty nimble.... that would be my best bet for you because it has tons of power yet is controllable

Since the title is "what would you get" and I just bought an 05' z about two months ago I think my answer is the Z.

Predators are pretty popular around here so I have ridden quite a few of them. And the only complaint I have is the bulk of the machine. I don't know how much more the pred weighs but it seems bigger, not heavier but bigger. although I have seen rookies on predators beat z on the trails I have also never lost to a predator(have yet to go to the sand)

Also I like the powerband of the z better.

I have no complaints from the z so far.

Do you have any good reasons as to why you say that?

z's are prolly better for trail riding

predators you feel like you gotta ride them like a 2-stroke

z's are like the ex's, handle good and are fun, and prolly have more bottom end power for the hills at st. joe, cuz i like those hills a lot too

you know what, you should buy my 300ex, lol

I havent ridden a predator yet, but one of the truckers at my dads work had one and asked if he could ride it around the parking lot, so he let my dad ride it and my dad said it was pretty fast, nice lowend, felt a little weird but handled nice. I sat on a z400 at a dealer ship near me when I had to pick up some parts for my banshee, it was pretty nice I know that suzuki has changed alot on them since they came out and its a much better machine then what it was when it first came out. I would have to say you'd have to go and test ride both, sit on both and see what YOU like, our opinions can only help so much. :)

well i honestly cant decide, ive sat on both and both are comfortable to me and seem like i could handle it fine. if you guys are going to tell me predators suck or get a 400ex, why dont u tell me a reason why.

mxjunkie your right about your guys opinions only going so far. the one thing that draws me to the predator is the exrta power it has. it think i would be happy on either one, jsut have to make a decision:o

Z's felt like they sat up really high and we're narrow...but it seemed to ride fine.

I've only sat on a Pred and it had a big stance which I didn't mind since I'm a bigger guy. Haven't rode one yet though.

I have ridden all three Z, EX, and I own a pred.......the z has a bit more power than the ex, and the pred has more power than both. Comfort the ex, z...pred last... but who cares right

In my case i would rule out the ex, and decide with the pred or the z.

What ruled the raptor out of your list?

well i like it alot, but it seems like it would be to much power for me and the riding i do. it would be perfect for me if i did any kind of dune riding but the stuff i do, its to much.

my bro has a z440 and its real comfortable. Its a very reliable machine and great hamdling.

I have a 17y/o friend who has a predator and I rode it and to tell you the truth the handling sucks. The ride is comfy tho I have to admit. The handling slips from underneath you and its just not good at all.

Here's a cool fact!

Did you know the light design on the Predator was used from the honda 400ex, and Polaris had to pay Honda to use their design? the lights just aren't together.:blah:

ya but in the woods, i would think the 660 would have to much power for me that i could possibly use.

I was deciding the exact same thing before I got my bike... Orange KFX or a Troy Lee Predator. (black ones)

After seeing and sitting on the predator at a small quad parts store (owners) I definately ruled it out just by how massively wide it is. IMO, it would make a horrible trails quad that wide. If you ride trails that are only a little bit wider than the bike most of the time like I do, you would be hitting the rear end off of trees all day long.

The Z/KFX clones are still plenty powerful, and all they need is a pipe and filter setup and you'll be set. I'm sure if you spent enough time with your buddie on his 450 you would have NO trouble keeping up with him in the paths, and still not be too far behind on the straights.

I'm more than happy with my KFX... wheelies on demand even stock, plenty of power, and turns heads everywhere when it's time to go into the city to hit the car wash to clean er up.

My vote would be the predator. The only complaint I have with the preds is the fit and finish of the plastic. They have enough power so that the extra wieght isn't noticable. I would make my decision on weather you would end up racing it or not. If you are going to race, even if it's not for a year or so, the Z is better for racing.
