Dowel pins. When the shop installs the oversize sleeve in the 400ex cylinder one thing happens; the outer part of sleeve runs into stud holes. There are two dowel pins on opposite sides that keep the head from twisting on the cylinder. When the 440 is installed the dowel pins or the sleeve MUST be cut down on one side for pin to seat fully. If neither are done the threads will pull from cylinder when the head is torqued down. The steel pins are much stronger than the aluminum threads in cylinder walls.

I have read about a good bit of guys with 440's that have blowed gaskets repeadetly and this is one reason why.

Another thing that can cause rocker over leaks is overtightening the 8mm bolts. These bolts need to be tightended crisscrossed like a car rim and only with 1/4" ratchet!! If you start at one side and put 40 ft/lbs on them the cover will warp and it will leak oil eventually.
