I was just changin my oil and oil filter, and put the new oil filter in and was puttin the oil filter cover/case thing on, and the long screw on the right snapped off inside their  . And its a saturday and all the shops are closed, so this sucks.

My dad said they can use some kind of thing and drill into the piece of the screw and pull it out. Is their anything i can do? And where can i get another one of those screws? its the long long one on the right side that holds the metale case/cover thing on over the oil filter

Take out the other one and go to autozone and tell them you need that bolt. you can use a easy out to get that bolt out. Next time don't tighten itup so much.

the ''other one'' is a different sized screw. the one on the left is small and the one on the ride(which i broke) has a long smooth shaft before the threads start.

What is this easy out stuff?
And will it cost alot if i take it to the honda place to get it fixed?

wuts easy out?

and will they have to order the bolt? and will it cost alot?

04-23-2005, 04:46 PM
Yea take it to honda so you can pay 65 bucks for them to take out a bolt.

Got nads?

an easy out is basically like a reverse drill bit. Once you drill a hole with a drill bit, you thread in the easy out. Than you can use pliers or a drill to pull out the easy out with the broken bolt on the end of it.

ok the hole is really skinny, and its about 2+ inches deep before u get to the broken screw piece, will easy out reach it?

ok here it is

number 14 at the bottom of the pic is the one i broke.

its broken at about the middle of the thread, not the screw, but about halfway between where the thread starts, to the end of the screw.

Take a small straight screwdriver, and see if ya can get it against a rough part of the break, and turn it out.It shouldnt be in there very tight at all. When it broke,it took all the pressure off the bolt.I done it many times. It will probobly come out real easy.

I had the same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago. But I broke the small one. I was lucky on that one. From now on I don't tighten as much even thou they probably could be alittle tighter. I use a 1/4 in rachet and when I feel like there snug I just give it a 1/8 of a turn more and that's it. Also when you get the new one put a drop of fresh oil on the threads that way you won't gaul the threads in the case.

Use a torque wrench.

JForestZ34

When mine broke I was using a torque wrench. They way I look at it you don't need much torque on them anyway because the filter spring has enough tension on the cover. So the bolts aren't going to vibrate out with the tension on the bolt heads from the spring.

u might end up heli-coiling it. just be very careful when drilling it out! the cases are alum. and the bolt is going to be a lot harder then that!

k my dad got a threadin bit at home depot and it was too small so we are about to go back and get abigger size, and try to rethread the hole some, so we can just get a small bolt in their to hold on the oil filter cover. Does the bolt need to be long like the stock one? why was the stock one so long, does it need to go back in the hole deeper or will it be fine if it just goes in far enough to hold on the oil filter cover

update: got the hole threaded, got the new oil filter, in and put the cover on, and fits like a gloves, works great. Just went around the block, and its not leakin at all....i hope it holds up
