I just got my new hipers the other day and it apperas they redesigned the front wheel somewhat. It is no longer finned but smooth instead.

Where did you buy them? I know the first generation of Hipers were smooth and they found that they weakened over time. Hiper then changed to the newer design with the ribs to stiffen the wheel.

I havent even seen them up close yet. I worked all day and my buddy threw them on for me. he said the mounting tabs were alot beefier on mine. is this how the old style was ? or do you think maybe they changed it again ?

your mounting tabs would look different if your wheels are a different offset that what he has seen. 3+2 has more material than 4+1

Actually, the brand new Hiper 4/1 fronts are smooth on the outside (as opposed to the older 4/1's). They also have new center sections that allow the use of a normal sized socket.

I also have a set of these sitting in my garage - they were shipped out directly from Hiper a week or two ago.

Below is a picture of the new front wheel

haha glad to hear, I felt bad for you when I first read this thread. It would kill me if I finally dumped the money for hipers and got an older model, or a new version came out 2 weeks later.

This is the third gen for hiper right? Are these real 4+1 now? I heard 4+1 hipers were actually stick out further. I dont know if this is true but I had read this on another board.

No - there is no such thing currently as a "real" 4/1 wheel.

Hipers are as close as you'll get though. Even the older ones --- all of which are closer to 4/1 than stock.

Stock wheels are approximately 3.75/1.75

Hiper 4/1's are approximately 3.625/1.375.

thanks guys...
I think everyone says their offsets different.
I'm pretty sure when you see 4+1 or 3+2 they are actually talking back spacing and front spacing
offset is actually ths distance from the mouting pad to the centerline of the wheel :)
useless information from a tire changer
