Gas mileage problems

I am pretty new to the sport so I am unsure on this one. When I bought my '04 400EX, the sales guy said that you could ride pretty much all day on a tank of fuel, depending of course on what you're doing and how you ride. Other riders I have talked to also agreed with what was said. My experience so far is that I can only get about 2-3 hours of ride time on a tank of gas. Does this seem about right or is something wrong with my quad?

Thats about right.I wouldn't expect to do any more than 35 miles on a stock tank or approximatley 2 1/2 hrs.

Yeah thats about right. Most people don't ride more than 2 hours a day I guess.

While out trail riding I can get almost 60 miles to a tank, including using some of the reserve. Granted I'm not going balls out though the trails, but there are times when I am. I'd say 45 miles per tank would be a good average, depending on how you are riding. Obviously if you're on the gas all the time you're gonna burn more fuel.

i dont think so i get around 3hrs on my tank and thats hard riding. that guy is full of it were u bought it

get a clarke oversized (5.5gal i think) if you want to go farther. may be my next investment.

For the first couple of trips i took with my 400 i could ride all day on a tank of gas. but as i learned to ride better and faster this is down to about 2-3 hours depending on how hard im riding.

Yup, just did 60 miles of decent trail riding. when i got the 04 400ex home, i had to use reserve to start it

i can usually make it 60 miles before hitting reserve.

i can ride for about 6 to 7 hours with a little stoppinf tim,e about 15 minutes, and i dont even run out of gas yet.
