is the battery charged?
If not then the only thing i can think of is when you hit the tree that you probably made a connection come lose somewhere,i would say check all wires first

Yeah, sounds electrical. One thing that is common i a loose wire on the relay, I think that's where it is.

If you still have the neutral light installed does it light up when in neutral and the key is on?

check battery cables and battery itself. Make sure you are in neutral. Hope you can fix it!

Mine did(and still does) this some times. Does it start when you push it down a hill and dump the clutch? Try cleaning the battery terminals, and where the ground hooks to the frame.

if it is a buzzing noise that sounds like its coming from the start relay then your battery is dead bro, just charge it up for a couple of hours and you should be good and ready to roll again

Try pulling out the spark plug and then try to start the bike with the spark plug out to see if it turns over!!

Pull your starter motor off, and see if u can turn it over by hand, Also, start at your Primary side of your electrical harness, and check eveything over then move onto your secondary side,,

(primary everything 12v) (secondary everything that makes spark)

Also 400EX's have some problems with the electronic rectifier coming upluged, Pull the plug out and clean all the termananles in there, and Also be sure to check ALL your conections.

SOunds to me like u have a bad ground possible.

Check your starter coil.On both side to see if it is getting power and if it is sending out power.

Do you have an aftermarket kill switch on it, cause those things go bad all the time!

I know how to do it the hard way, but I wouldnt reccomend it.
This is the easy way:

Take your spark plug out put it in the plugcap,I hold it to the frame(some hold it to the motor) and push the start button, if it is sending power there will be a visible spark. If not try it with a different plug then if it dont work try taking a buddies 400ex starter coil off hook it to your and try it then if it works there is your problem. The starter coil is located under the gas valve.
