Well, the 14 tooth sprocket is definitely killing your top speed. Its good for bottom end, but the bike revs through the gears much too quickly to race a raptor. The raptor usually pulls long and is more competitive in the upper gears once it gets going and thats probably where youre getting beat.

those raptors aren't that slow, especially when they are piped and jetted. your 14/38 gearing should be close to stock gearing with 22's on. i bet you would be a little quicker with 15/38 and 20's because of less rotating mass. the best way is to go with a cam and piston. however, i still don't think you will be able to compete on top end

Wait assuming he doesnt have an 05 400ex, then wouldn't he be closer to stock gearing with the 14/38 with 22inch tires? If he went down to the 20s he would lose even more top speed.

I myself find that stock gearing works very well with 20inch tires and some decent mods, like the cam and piston.

your gonna need more than gearing to out run a raptor.your giving up a lot of displacement.race him on a mx track.do 20 min motos and the rider who has the best conditioning will win not the fastest quad in a drag.:)

i didn't even think about the 05's. their stock gearing is 14/39. i meant to say 14/38 would be close to stock with 22's on. i will edit that post. thanks
