they are close,,,my X feels as strong as my EX, but i've yet to drag race them,,,stock vs stock the EX might edge it out on top end,,,

o, and www.3wheelerworld.com is a great place to research this topic, they have a quad forum that has some discussion on this,,,later

I would think the 350x should win because it is lighter.

with out a doubt a 350x would win, same horsepower as a 400ex, in a 40lb lighter chassis and also its a 6 speed, no revlimiter. Well, thats if you can keep front end on the ground. a 350x does about 75 and a 400ex does 65 stock, with a good rider and a good shape 350x it should be a slaughter.

yes they do, I ride my atc250r way more than my quad and I'm looking to get a GOOD 350x, the frame had bad rust spots on it and after the oven, well, about 5 inches of the frame vanished.

I have had:
85 250r
86 200x
85 200s

I have never been able to get my hands on a 350x. I bid on one on ebay a couple of weeks ago but it ended up going for $2000.
That have always been real expensive but maybe one day I will be able to find one that's clean.

They are very close in acceleration and speed. The 350x has less hp stock for stock with a 400ex, about 4hp less. Also the 350x didn't do 75 out of the box, the 85-86 250rs barely did that.

yeah, your right, the top speed on both (stock) is very close, 63-64 for the X and 64-65 for the EX, for mine,,,that's the first thing people ask when they see my X, "man, how faast will that thing go!!!???", I skip the whole acceleration versus speed argument and just say "fast enough for 3 wheels.",,,i really need to drag race both of mine,,,,

Take ol' "Hamboussi" to trikefest and drag it with some 400ex's, I know it was interesting for me once.

The final verdict-

Yes the 350x will beat a 400ex. I've raced one and beat it every time. Switched riders and the 350x still wins. the light weight and the extra gear really helps.

I traded off Hamboussi for an 85/86 250R!
I'm gonna make it to Trikefest this year! Can't wait! You gonna make it?

Deathman, you find an X yet? Are you the same Deathman on 3WW?

Both of mine were piped and jetted, but I believe the EX woulda won because you can launch it harder outta the hole. When dragging the X I would 'bob' the front tire through 4th gear. My X with stock gearing would only do 64-65.

I know that it won't. me and my step dad raced.
I'd say it might run the same or faster if the had the same sized sprokets, the 350x has 13t front while 400ex has 14t.

shows how much things have improved over the last 2 decades huh? ..a nice ATC 250R would beat basically every quad that go for 6+ thousand dollars that are on the market today...so i continue to stick with the R and banshee :D

From my experience a 350x will not beat a 400, I now have owned both. The 400 revs so much faster than the 350, maybe in a top end race the X might come out on top, I would have to say there would be no way in a quarter mile run. Just my opinion though. I know I dont miss my 350 at all.

to those who believe a stock ex runs 65 it doesnt. mine ran 57 on a radar gun stock. and my bros shee ran 62 stock. and the gun was tested with a cars speedo so it is correct. Just setting the record straight. and btw i weigh 180lbs.

Everyone that said the 350X would win is wrong. I had a bone stock 350X and no matter what I did, I could not beat a stock 400EX. It was close but I could not beat my brother in law's 400EX.

I almost forgot, I had 20" tires, the same one's on the EX, on the 350X and even on the launch I couldn't get much, if any, of a lead on him.

Now I like 3 wheelers too but they weren't that great. I'd take a 4 wheeler most every day, although I still have a Tri-Z that I will ride from time to time.

About six months ago I was riding at our local place with my uncle and two cousins, and my older cousin who rides a 400EX with a White Brothers E-Series and a K&N Filter raced a stock 350X. His 400 pulled away at the end by about two or three quad lengths. It was a very close race, and if both bikes were stock it would have been very close.
