Women's Class

Once again, the battle is on for the Women's Championship with Stephanie Parton currently in the points lead heading into Big Buck, but with 4 throw aways, it comes down to who has the most wins by the end of the season and currently both Traci and Stephanie are tied, but with them swapping wins back and forth after each race, it was in Traci's favor to take the win if history repeated itself.

Traci Cecco was even more motivated to come out on top this race since her main sponsor Alba Action’s Owner, Cory Hove made the trip out from California to watch his team riders in action at both the GNCC and GNC events this weekend.

Alba Action rider, Chris Borich, also made his way to the line to cheer on Traci and the rest of the morning racers

Shanna Bradshaw and Stefanie Verkade are both having impressive racing season and they have more in common than just racing because they are both 911 Operators outside of racing.

This season, Stefanie Verkade is looking to improve upon her 4th place finish last season and move up into the top three, and Shanna Bradshaw is making her Women's class debut this year after coming to the races last year with Mark Rhodes and the rest of the Carroll County, Maryland gang of racers including myself.

After the constant encouragement of Mark Rhodes for her to race she finally decided to give it a try this year, but unfortunately Mark Rhodes won’t be at many events as he needs to focus on building a house this year.

Shanna earned her 1st top five finish at Steele Creek and hungry for yet another plaque, congratulations Shanna and glad to see out on the track and not on the sidelines watching.

The very young, Ashlie Whaley, started her GNCC racing career last year at Loretta Lynn's and this will be her first race at Big Buck.

With the racing action about to begin, I handed off my camera to my good friend Bonnie Hamrick to help capture some of the racing action from the morning class, and this weekend I also received support my Photog(Kenny Hill), Fred Mudd, Carleen Rose, and Ed Foley, so ATVriders.com had cameras all over the track for the morning race, so if you see any of these photographers on the track let them know how much you appreciate their work because without them this wouldn't be possible.

Thanks to everyone that helps with the coverage :D

Also before we get started we get started with the Women's Race, a special thanks goes out to Mike Trapp for providing the Overall National Number standings once again, which will be posted shortly.

The start of the women's race once again had Stephanie Parton and Traci Cecco battling tire to tire to get around the 1st turn with the lead.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:02 PM
Stefanie Verkade gave everyone a scare when she came flying off the back of her 450R after hitting the lip in the field, but she quickly jumped back up on her feet and ran over to her 450R waiting for her to continue the race.

Team Suzuki/Yoshimura Rider, Stephanie Parton, was able to power her way to the front and take over the lead as she headed out into the open fields at the start of the race with Traci Cecco knocking on her door.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:06 PM
By the end of the 1st lap, Traci Cecco was able to make the pass on Stephanie and take over the lead with Stephanie now right on her rear bumper.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:09 PM
Amazingly, Stefanie Verkade managed to come from last place and pass her way up to 3rd place after passing Angel Atwell by the end of the 1st lap :macho, which proves that you should never give up.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:12 PM
Ashlie Whaley would come through the barrels in 6th place behind Erika Jones and she would remain in 6th place for the rest of the race.

Also, Jennifer Albright was out of the race after her tire became locked up with another riders quad which required them to remove her wheel before they could seperate the two quads :(

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:15 PM
By the 2nd lap, the battle out front continued with Traci Cecco remaining in the lead with Stephanie right behind her, but Angel Atwell was able to regain the 3rd spot.

Stefanie removed her goggles early, so she made an early pit stop for another set of goggles which costed her some valuable time.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:20 PM
Angela Mason remained in 9th place behind Shanna Bradshaw in 8th which is where they would end up finishing as well.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:22 PM
By the 3rd lap, Stephanie Parton remained in 2nd place right behind Traci as the battle for the win continued.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:24 PM
Angel Atwell also remained in 3rd place, but was losing a minute a lap behind the lead pair as she dropped back 3 minutes behind Traci and Stephanie, but she began to pull away from Stefanie Verkade in 4th.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:27 PM
Missie Legge made the switch from the blaster to a 400EX for this season and continues to look better and better with everyrace as she rode herself to a 10th place finish.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:31 PM
By the last lap, the battle for the lead became less intense after Stephanie Parton snapped off her footpeg once again at Big Buck. Last year, Stephanie snapped off a footpeg at Big Buck and she did it once again this year with a totally different peg.

Traci Cecco would go on to take another win for the Alba Action Team and move one win ahead of Stephanie, but Stephanie remains in the points lead.

Admin
04-20-2005, 01:33 PM
Angel Atwell would secure the 3rd spot over Jean Lovely who worked her way up from a 7th place start to finish in 4th for Team Safari with Stefanie Verkade dropping back to finish in 5th.

Stock Class

Billy Good dominated the Stock Class last year with six wins in only nine races, and he is looking to win yet another championship this season and earn the #201 plate away from Stephanie Parton, but better he definitely has some competition this year.

The young gun, Jarrod McClure, is set to graduate from High School this year and in his first attempt at a full season in the GNCC Series he making his presence known with three podium appearances already after only four races.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:14 PM
Will Cashion kicked off the season once again with a podium appearance, but hasn't been able to get back on the podium since, but he has remained consistent and is currently 4th in points.

Chris Neal kicked off his Stock Class season in Georgia on a positive note with a 3rd Place finish and a Podium appearance and followed it up with a 4th Overall at Steele City only 3 seconds away from the Podium once again, so he is back for yet another attempt at the podium.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:30 PM
TJ Lenig decided to try out the Stock Class at Steele Creek and surprised everyone with his overall victory. TJ Lenig has been involved in racing for years in the GNCC Series and has had some impressive finishes in the past with a 12th Overall and 13th Overall in the Afternoon a few years ago, but last he cut back his racing to only six races in the Open A Class because of his work schedule.

His Brother Tyler Lenig has since moved on the Afternoon in the 4 Stroke B Class, and now Tyler is picking up where he left off.

Left to Right,

Tim Lenig(Father), TJ Lening, and Tyler Lenig

The start of the race had Michael Sroka jumping out to the early lead with Jarrod McClure and Chris Neal in hot pursuit as I(Harlen Foley) tried to keep up with the 450cc and 500cc machine on my 400cc Suzuki.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:38 PM
Cardio Stack King, Jamie Bougher, had his body ready for the race, but his Honda decided it would rather sit on the line as he was the last one to get his quad started and take off after the rest of the class in last place, atleast he wouldn't have to worry about arm pump chasing down the class

I am surprised there hasn't been a debate about whether using Cardio Stack would give one Stock Class rider an advantage over another rider who couldn't afford the supplement?, lol

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:42 PM
Michael Sroka grabbed the Holeshot aboard his Polaris Predator

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:44 PM
It wouldn't take long for the lightning fast Billy Good to make his move and take over the lead, but his lead would be short lived as he would collide with Ashlie Whaley and lock there quads together require her to have the wheel removed to seperate the two machines which sent Billy Good back to last place and basically out of the race :(

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:45 PM
With Billy out of the race, Chris Neal would replace him out front as he worked his way through the Women's and Super Senior Class early in the 1st lap.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:51 PM
Jarrod McClure, Michael Sroka, and Harlen Foley would all get caught up behind John Gallagher early in the 1st lap and he wouldn't let them around him for anything and held them up for several miles allowing Chris Neal to pick up some valuable time early in the race.

Luckily, the track widens and several lines formed and the three riders aggressively had to pass John to get around him to avoid losing anymore time as TJ Lenig catches up to pack.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:52 PM
Will Cashion was out near the front early, but picking a bad line around a rider had him stuck which droped him back to 7th place by the end of the lap.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:54 PM
The highly aggressive Matt Hanna now aboard a Honda after starting out the season on a Yamaha worked his way up to 6th place afte getting around Cashion.

Admin
04-20-2005, 02:58 PM
By the 2nd lap, Chris Neal remained out front, but Jarrod McClure was finally able to close the 20 second gap he developed while Jarrod was stuck behind Gallagher in the 1st lap.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:01 PM
Their was an intense battle for third place between Michael Sroka and Harlen Foley as they would swap positions back and forth in the 1st and 2nd laps.

Michael Sroka's Predator would be able to out power the Suzuki in the fields at the end of both the 1st and 2nd laps to take over the 3rd spot heading into the next lap.

Also, the creek jumps were closed off to the morning riders :(, so we were forced to ride through the creek.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:07 PM
Early in the 2nd lap, My goggles somehow become smudged on the inside and which made it very difficult to slice through the trees, so I removed my goggles, but once Sroka passed me, he roosted me pretty good, so I was forced to put back on the smudged goggles until I arrived at my pit area.

Unfortunately, my father was busy trying to take photos of the race and wasn't expecting me to come in for goggles, so here he snaps my photo as I come in for goggles and no one was there until he ran over to get the goggles and hand them off to someone to put over my helmet which costed me atleast 15 seconds and allowed the quickly approaching TJ Lenig to move within a few seconds behind me in 5th.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:11 PM
By the beginning of the 3rd lap with fresh goggles, I was able to make the the 20 second lead Sroka developed on me in the 2nd lap and pass him to take over 3rd Place as he headed into his pits for fuel.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:12 PM
By the time Sroka took off from fueling, TJ Lenig was within striking distance as he chased after Sroka's dust cloud.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:13 PM
By the end of the lap, Chris Neal remained out front, and continued to hold off the hard charging Jarrod McClure from passing him as Chris Neal would consistently pick the fastest lines around the track.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:16 PM
TJ Lenig would make the pass on Sroka and begin to put the pressure on Harlen Foley as they caught up to the Traci and Stephanie Battling for the women's lead.

They both were quickly able to pass the ladies as they continued to battle for that final podium spot.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:20 PM
Within a few hundred feet of the end of the 3rd lap, I made a costly mistake and smacked a tree almost head on with my left front tire and about broke my forearm and bit my lip. The pain was intense, so I tried to shake it off with TJ Lenig right behind me witnessing the entire event as we went throug the scoring tent only 1 second apart.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:21 PM
Michael Sroka remained in chase only 17 seconds back in 5th place.

Admin
04-20-2005, 03:26 PM
As the battle out front continued between Chris and Jarrod, the battle for 3rd was just as intense between myself and TJ. I did everything I could to keep TJ from getting past me, but I knew that if I couldn't pull away from him by the field section that he would easily walk past me at the end.

As the lap continued, my arm began to swell up from the impact, but I still held my ground until the 4.5 mile mark when TJ and I took different lines up the hill climb and TJ was able to out power me up the hill and take over the 3rd spot as I came in right behind him at the top of the hilll

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:41 PM
As Chris and Jarrod were battling for the lead a spectator placed a vine across the track which caught Chris in the throat and almost knocked him off his quad, but he was able to hold on to his quad and the lead to take the checkered flag for his 1st Overall Win with Jarrod McClure on his rear bumper in 2nd Overall

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:43 PM
TJ was easily able tio pull away from me in the fields and to earn 3rd overall and his 2nd Podium appearance.

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:47 PM
After a string of DNF races, it was great to see the checkered flag with a 4th overall finish. Last year, I finished consistently in the top 7 overall, so it was disappointing to see everything falling apart on me this season, so I was forced to make some changes in my program to try to get back in the top 5, and I can't wait till Loretta's for another chance at the podium.

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:49 PM
Will Cashion finished out the race with a 9th place finish.

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:50 PM

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:53 PM
Jamie Bougher also spent most of the morning watching the race after only completing one lap :(

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:54 PM
Meanwhile, Chris Neal and Jarrod McClure talked about there incredible battle on the podium and the close call for Chris with the vine.

Admin
04-20-2005, 07:58 PM
TJ Lenig describe how him and I battle and worked our way through the pack together once again, and it was great to see TJ on the podium. I had a great time racing with him because I knew that no matter who finished out front we would get there in one piece without taken each other out to accomplish it.

Thanks TJ for showing your support for ATVriders.com with your EXriders.com stickers.

With the start of the Super Senior Class, John Gallagher put his machine out front early once again with Stephen Vasko trying to hold him off.

Admin
04-20-2005, 08:05 PM
Ken Vickerd was right behind the leaders as Thomas Jenks, Ron Rice, and Richard Rudolff rounding out the back of the pack.

Admin
04-20-2005, 08:07 PM
John Gallagher jumped out to the early lead and looked to be on his way to his 5th win on the season! He ran into problems near the end of the 1st lap and would only go on to complete two laps in the race and finish in last place, which would be his 1st throw away of the season.

Admin
04-20-2005, 08:09 PM
Richard Rudloff made his season debut in dramatic fashion in the Super Senior class by going on to win the race aboard his Honda 400EX and finished 6 minutes ahead of 2nd place Ken Vickerd and 18 minutes in front of 3rd place finshers Jim Clester.
