i want to widen my 400ex i ride alot of trails and i need better stability. but maybe some day in the future i might want to race at the local track is there any rules to a limit of to wide for racing. like would plus 3 be too wide

will widened arms make alot of differnce. should i go with plus 3 or 2 out and 1 forword or what would you recomend

after i got widend arms i would get elka suspension for the front

what difference is there between the series of elka shocks
who has elka for the best price

the AMA legal limit is 50 inches; widened A-arms will make a lot of difference. you will notice a great improvement in handling and stability.

50 inches is too wide for the trails though. You could ride the trails i guess but it is no fun at all.

for a 400ex, 50 inches is plus 3 a-arms and 4:1 wheels. since your riding trails, i would get plus 2 a-arms and 4:1 wheels. you'll be at 48 inches. still wide for the trails, but its only about a half inch wider than a stock predator, so its not THAT bad. then use your stock wheels for mx and you'll be at 49 iches

actually if you measure from the outside of the front tire to the other Stock is around 42 inches at half wheel travel. so +3's would get you around 48 inches with your stock offset wheels. like he said, you can always get 4:1 offset wheels if you feel that your too wide.

If you just race local mx races, most of them are not AMA sanctioned and arent gonna care that much. But if you race AMA, watch out for somebody wining about it.

I have +3s with 3:2 offset wheels and I am at 49.5" Also, like I said before. I can't name a trail in AZ that you will have a problem on being that wide.
