A friend and I are trying to figure out how to get 2 400ex's in the back of the Stroker. F-250 8ft box and we can't put the tailgate down, still have to pull a travel trailer. Pictures would be best. We'd prefer not to stack them but if need be....Track is about 3 hours away that's the reasoning for not driving seperate.

Basically this truck (minus the cap)

And still able to pull this trailer

I guess i would have to say ditch the topper and take 2 by 4's and put them sideways across your box and put the quads sideways on top of the box.... it might seem a little crazy of an idea, but ive done if before, and if u tie them down, u will be ok. just dont drive like a bad-outta-hell. i will try to find a picture of wht it might look like and get back to ya tonight

sorry about this 2nd post, but this will require a bit of lifting to get them on top.

put the first one in, stand it up on it's grab bar tires facing the cab put the second one in straight and it should fit fine. tommy has a picture of 2 400's in the back of a toyota maybe he will post it if he see's this thread.

this is a 6 ft bed so it'll fit fine in a 8ft bed!

i use one of these.... one of the best invesments i have ever bought.. i will try to get some pics. with it on my truck easy to install and comes with ramps to get them up there. my tail gate can still shut... and it still leaves room under it to put gear or gas cans.

ballistic's pic is what i was talking about... but i was thinking after i looked at your pictures. why not make a big long ramp and tie them down on top of your camper?

i say try to put the smaller one in the bed.. take off all shocks... unbolt the handlebars and bend them down.. then build a thing like the one above and put the bike on top of it

i would think that breaking down a bike to that point just to transport would be a pain in the rear.

ballisticpb,

How does that affect the handling of the truck? I've been seeing a bunch of that type of set up since last year. Most were loaded from the side and a few were above the cab:huh

really does not handle bad at all... feels like a small camper on it at most... the nice thing about the way these load is you mimimize wind damage or aero problems with them pointing forward. easy to load. all the weight from the bikes goes to the frame of the truck, not the side rails. the other nice thing is it only take one person to install and remove it from the truck.

if all of you reread his first post he said that it doesnt have the camper shell on his truck.

You can put them each in there sideways. I've had 2 quads in the back of my dakota at the same time sideways. It was my predator and a 250R.

Thank you. Nothing as drastic as breaking down the wheeler or mounting on top of the bed maybe in the future. I was thinking about sideways in the bed or front wheels on the side of the bed?

As for on top of the camper? It's almost 12 ft high as is, alot of overpasses are about 15, that makes roughly a foot of 400ex more than overpass.

if you look at the straps he has it resing on the grabbar and just straps it on the front and back... before i got my rack i would put one on the grab bar with the tires cabside and strapped it forward against the cab as as tight as i could. just put some foam on the cab to not scratch it.. then the other will just roll in and stay on all fours

Kinda what I was thinking except both fronts up on the right side. Can you still see out of the mirrors? More importantly the left side for me. How much does each over hang?

Sorry for all of the questions. I don't want to see my wheeler tumbling down the expressway.

Stnad the one up, and put a towel under its frotn wheels, and put the on top of the cab, then drive the other 400 on, and stand it up facing the same direction (towards the cab) and strap the 2 together, then strap them down. It worked with my 300 and my friends z-400 in the back of my dads chevy 6ft bed.

Just look in the letters section of dirtwheels. They always have a "most loaded" title for the month.

Are you talking about like this sort of?

the yellow one is just sitting on its wheelie bar... i put a tie down to each corner of the bed and to the front of the frame...

then i put 2 from the red 400 to the front of the bed and 2 to the back of the bed and one safty strap around the back just incase something let goo...

i drove it 3 hours to rausch in the rain like that with no problems and then 3 hours back home!:macho

the eaziest way i could think of would be to leave your tail gate down get 2 2x12 boards and put the first quad on...side the 2 boards under the tires of the first quad...then put the other quad on and let the assend hang off with the 2 tires on the board...ive done it before on an 8ft bed and it worked like a charm...just strap both in very tight and dont do any baja with them on back and it should be a-ok

IMO, Tommy's idea is money. I've seen a lot of quads loaded this way while at the dunes and have never seen anyone have issues.

the only issuse i had with it was that my bed wasn't long enouf... i put the ramps under it to make the bed and tail gate one piece and it worked FINE!

Remember we can't put the tailgate down and use the boards. I still have to pull a 28ft travel trailer and that won't happen with the tailgate down. Tommy's looks like it would work well but still leary about standing one on end like that.

I think this is the best bet. They'll stay put and it's not too radical. If this becomes a common thing the rack on top of the bed will be the way to go. Thanks for the help.
