GNCC race fans have been treated to an incredible battle for the Championship this season with Bill Ballance and Chris Borich in a dead heat for the title with identical finishing results, but after this weekend’s event, one or the other will have sole control of the points lead.

Five Time GNCC Champion, #1 Bill Ballance, heads to the starting line to defend his title and attempt to move tie Barry Hawk’s seven Championships on an ATV.

#10 Greg Trew heads to the line sporting his new GT Thunder graphic kit after joining the team at Steele Creek. Greg completed his 1st race this season at Steele Creek and came within 3 seconds of a podium appearance, so he is hungry for yet another great race to get his season headed in the right direction.

Greg Trew wasn’t the only Pro with new graphics this weekend, #16 Santo Derisi switched up his graphics for the 3rd time this season looking to find that perfect look, and I must say that I like the new graphics with the Derisi Racing Logo out front.

Santo started off the season like gang busters with two top 10 over finishes back to back, but the mud claimed Santo at both Georgia and North Carolina, so he is looking to get himself back into it this weekend.

Another pair of North Carolina Pro Riders and teammates, #11 Michael Houston and #6 Bryan Cook wait to be called to the line up on Pro Row before the start of the race.

Once all the Pro Riders had their quads lined up, they once again walked over to the fence along the start to wait for their name to be announced to the crowd and walk back to their machine.

It was great to see the Pro Rookie (Rhett Butler) and the Pro Legend (Bill Ballance) waiting side by side against the fence. As young new riders enter the Pro ranks in an attempt to become the next GNCC Champion.

#5 Chad Duvall returns to racing once again after skipping Steele Creek to let his thumb heal after his wreck in Florida. Chad Duvall hasn’t been dealt the best hand this year, but he remains positive and good spirited and is thankful to still be able to race after fighting cancer.

#4 Matt Smiley has been having an incredible season so far aboard his new Polaris Predator. Many speculated that he couldn’t be competitive on a machine that weighs in at over 400lbs, but Matt has proved that Polaris Predator is a race worthy XC machine with two podium appearances.

#16 Santo Derisi and #4 Matt Smiley socializing before the start of the race.

The man that everyone was watching this round was #3 Chris Borich to see if he would be able to stop Bill Ballance’s win streak and regain sole control of the points lead.

Alba Action’s Owner, Cory Hove, made the trip out from California to watch his newest team rider in action along with Traci Cecco.

After the completion of the prayer and the National Anthem we were within only a few minutes of the start of probably one of the most exciting Pro GNCC races in years.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:09 PM
As Ricky Towery, signified 10 Seconds, the Pro riders rose off their seats and intensely stared at the green flag held in his hand waiting for it to move.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:10 PM
#2 William Yokley got the early jump on his Factory Suzuki LTZ400 and held almost a quad length lead heading toward the 1st turn.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:13 PM
By turn two, William Yokley had company out front with #8 Jeremy Rice powering his Baldwin 450R from outside battling for that front spot with Borich and Ballance running side by side with Matt Smiley getting off to a good start right behind them.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:14 PM
#9 Brandon Ballance wasn't anywhere near the front as he chased after a cloud of dust heading through turn two.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:16 PM
#8 Jeremy Rice was able to power his way past Yokley and take over the lead with Borich, Ballance, and Smiley in chase.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:18 PM
#13 Todd Knippenberg was running mid pack as the lead the two Four Stroke Tech riders out into the high speed field section.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:24 PM
#9 Brandon Ballance caught a break and picked up a spot when #69 Thomas Barrett got crossed up heading out into the field.

Unfortunately, Barrett's misforutune would continue as he would only go on to complete one lap which was the 3rd time this season he was unable to complete the race after starting out the season. He start started out the season with a good race in Texas, but things have gone down hill from there, but hopefully things will turn around at Loretta's.

By the end of the 1st lap, Bill Ballance had taken over the lead with Chris Borich on a few seconds behind him.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:38 PM
#8 Jeremy Rice had slipped back to third place and #2 William Yokley was left sitting on the track only a few miles into the 1st lap when his vent hose become clogged and his Suzuki shutoff on him, but by the time he realized what the problem was, he had already been passed by many of the Pro Am Riders, so he had to put his head down and start charging hard if he wanted any chance of salvaging this round.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:39 PM
Four Stroke Tech Rider, Michael Houston, was off to a great start holding down 4th place heading into the 2nd lap.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:40 PM
#6 Bryan Cook was also out to a good start running strong in 6th place behind #4 Matt Smiley.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:44 PM
Duncan Racing’s, #14 Andy Lagzdins, was once again in the top 10 holding down the 7th spot with #23 Bryan Baker, #7 Chris Jenks, #9 Brandon Ballance, and #10 Greg Trew all within a few seconds of each other in hot pursuit.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:50 PM
By the 1.5 Mile mark of the 2nd lap, at the 1st Creek Jump, Chris Borich had taken over the lead with Bill Ballance only a few seconds behind him as he launched the creek jump for the 1st time during the race as all the top 10 Pro Riders went around the jump on the 1st lap.

Also, many of the spectators didn't even venture over to it because I don't think they even knew it existed.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:56 PM
#9 Brandon Ballance and his shadow #10 Greg Trew launched the creek back to back as they battle for the 10th spot with #10 Greg Trew going on to pass Brandon before the end of the lap.

I was joking about the shadow comment, but you have to admit that they did look almost indentical this race.

Admin
04-19-2005, 01:59 PM
#2 William Yokley continued his charge up from last place as he moved up though the pack into 13th place behind behind #13 Todd Knippenberg by the end of the lap.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:02 PM
Unfortunatley, once again, #5 Chad Duvall would only be able to complete one lap before snapping a tie-rod which would take him out of the race :(

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:03 PM
By the third lap, I headed over to Creek Jump #2 at the 4 mile marker and it was packed with spectators waiting to watch some of the creek jumping action.

They were lined up all long the jump and creek and also stretched out around the landing and creek by-pass.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:05 PM
As everyone patiently waited for the Pro to come back around, the kids kept themselves occupied playing in the creek.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:07 PM
With a few spectators yelling out "The Pros are Coming" everyone's attention was quickly focused on the track to see who would be out front this lap.

Once again, it was Chris Borich holding down the lead with Bill Ballance right behind him as they both launched over the creek's edge.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:11 PM
As the battle for the lead intensified Borich and Ballance would begin to seperate themselves from the rest of the Pros after putting in the fastest lap times of the race with a tie of 28:30.

Almost a minute back in third place was #11 Michael Houston

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:15 PM
Their was more than one exciting battle going on during the race with #4 Matt Smiley and #6 Bryan Cook swapping position back and forth several times with Matt holding onto the 4th spot by the end of lap #3 with Cook temporarily slipping back to 6th behind #7 Chris Jenks.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:18 PM
#23 Bryan Baker was once again silently creeping his way through the pack as he moved up to 7th Place after passing both Jeremy Rice and Andy Lagzdins.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:26 PM
For the 1st time this season, #14 Andy Lagzdins would drop out of the top 10 by the last lap of the race as he dropped back to 11th with William Yokley and Greg Trew both making their move before the end of the 3rd lap.

Admin
04-19-2005, 02:58 PM
by the Beginning of the 4th lap, Chris Borich remained out front of Bill Ballance as they headed into the pits for fuel. Bill Ballance was able to make the quicker pit stop and edge his way past Borich to take over the lead coming out of the pits as the battle for the lead continued.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:03 PM
Continuing to hold down the 3rd spot, #11 Michael Houston heads into the pits for fuel..

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:06 PM
While Houston team fueled his 500cc machine, he kept a close eye over his shoulder because Smiley, Cook, and Jenks were all within striking distance.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:12 PM
#4 Matt Smiley also came in for fuel along with #7 Chris Jenks, but #6 Bryan Cook had fueled a lap early and was able to quickly move back up to 4th place behind #11 Michael Houston.

It is great to see competing teams working together in the pits at the GNCC races which is something that you rarely see in any other racing event, but it very common among ATV racers.

Even at the GNC race on Sunday, Duncan Racer, #6 Tavis Cain was experiencing mechanical problems with his YFZ after the 1st Moto and Lost Creek Cycle's, Kevin, came over to offer a helping hand so he would be able to compete in the 2nd Moto.

Guys like Kevin and Joe Borich are just an example at how tight the bond is among fellow ATV racers and teams which is something I hope never changes as the sport grows and attracts more attention from the press.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:16 PM
#8 Jeremy Rice remained in 8th Place behind #23 Bryan Baker

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:18 PM
#10 Greg Trew kept his GT Thunder YFZ in the Top 10 and was closing the gap on Jeremy Rice in 8th.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:19 PM
#2 William Yokley was on fire as he continued his charge past Andy Lagzdins and Brandon Ballance to move into the Top 10 with one lap to go.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:22 PM
By the 6 mile marker of the last lap, Bill Ballance continued to hold down the lead over Chris Borich as they worked there way through lapped traffic.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:30 PM
New Flash, #11 Michael Houston had dropped all the way back to 6th place after hitting a tree early in the last lap, which allowed Bryan Cook for take over the final podium spot, but he had the podium hungry Matt Smiley all over his rear tires with less than 4 miles to go.

Michael Houston was now feeling the pressure from Bryan Baker trying to pick up one more position.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:33 PM
Incredibly, William Yokley powered his Suzuki past both Rice and Trew and took over 8th place and was wishing this was a 5 lap race instead of only 4 laps.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:35 PM
#10 Greg Trew would attempt to reel in #8 Jeremy Rice as he worked his way through lapped traffic.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:38 PM
Meanwhile, a battle raged on between Derisi, Lagzdins, Knippenberg, and Brandon Ballance as they swapped positions back and forth throughout the race.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:41 PM
With less than two miles to go, Chris Borich squeezes past Bill Ballance in fields and takes over the lead with Bill trying any line he can think of to get back around Chris Borich before the checkered flag.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:45 PM
After several last minutes attempts to make the pass, Bill Ballance would have to settle for 2nd Place and 2nd Place in points with Chris taking the win and points lead.

It was very obvious that Bill was disappointed with his finish because after winning for so long anything short of a win just isn’t satisfactory, which is completely understandable from our Five Time Champion.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:47 PM
#4 Matt Smiley was also make the pass on Bryan Cook after he made a small mistake which allowed for Matt to make the easy pass and take over the final podium spot.

Admin
04-19-2005, 03:50 PM
#4 Matt Smiley was able to hold onto for his 3rd Podium appearance this season aboard his Polaris Predator.

Congratulations Matt :macho

Matt will eventually get a chance to read this once I finish reparing his computer and return it to him at Loretta's.

Admin
04-19-2005, 04:02 PM
#6 Bryan Cook would have to settle for a 4th place finish, which was welcomed after a string of bad luck that has kept him out of the top 10 all season.

Finishing right behind Cook in 5th was #7 Chris Jenks with yet another top 7 Overall finish moving him into 5th in the Pro Class.

Admin
04-19-2005, 04:04 PM
#23 Bryan Baker would go on to pass #11 Michael Houston to finish in 6th place with William Yokley finishing only 2 seconds behind Houston in 8th

Admin
04-19-2005, 04:10 PM
#10 Greg Trew took the checkered flag with a freight train of Pro Riders behind him as 10th through 15th were all less than 21 seconds aparts by the end of the race which was very unusual considering their weren't any bottlenecks to bunch them up together.

Admin
04-19-2005, 04:12 PM
Andy Lagzdins would have his worst finish of the season with a 13th place finish and his first finish out of the top 10 Overall along with Brandon Ballance.

Admin
04-19-2005, 04:19 PM
An extremely confident, Chris Borich, accepted his 3rd overall win this season and thanked his parents first and foremost for everything they have done to help his career and ofcourse Alba Action all their support this season and actually showing up to watch him race.

Congratulation Chris on yet another impressive win :macho which made it another two win weekend for Honda with both Borich and Natalie winning this week aboard their Honda 450R's.

Flagtown NJ is home to Sean Neidlinger who has committed himself to the GNCC series. I have watched Sean improve at local races and cant wait until it all comes together for him at the Nationals. A top ten finish has been out of his grasp and the course at Big Buck may just be what the doctor ordered for a good showing from Sean.

Sean's dad Bill is seen in the background. Thats the best pit crew you can have!

to my knowledge, thee isnt a limit for blasters. the rules just have a list of the quads aloowed and a 350cc rule. i'll check into it tho. ithink 250cc blaster could get the job done just as well as a 255:devil:

I was just kidding about not being last off the line. I did it again this weekend at Loretta's. I like to sit back and watch the entire class get bottlenecked on a hill because some nimrod was over anxious. I must have passed all the vet class and most of the 2 stroke class on just one hill. I looked over and there they all were. I think you were there too, right? Anyway, after I had lunch, I got back on the track and finished a respectable 11th out of 24. Not bad, considering I didn't have a swamp buggy.
