I got my XL200R dirtbike motor back last week. I put new piston rings in it, new valves and had a valve job done, new cam chain, cam chain guide and tensioner, and new cam sprocket, new clutch plates, discs, and springs. I mounted up the motor in the frame, and got it running after a lil kicking. It ran good, I just had to make some idle adjustments and clean the carb. It ran very well for 2 days, then for some reason now it wont start. When it was last running, it was in second gear, and the clutch was pulled in and it just revved down and stalled, and couldnt be started again. The compression seems fine, there a nice spark, im not sure if its gettin fuel though, it seems the spark plug is dry when u take it out. I tried cleaning out the carb more, but everything is clean and the jets arent clogged, i took all the jets out and looked at them and cleaned them to make sure they were free. I am completely stumped at why its not running now. Sorry for the long post, hope I included all the info. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanx so much, later

Charlie

I'm not insulting your intelligence but this has been done before... is the gas on? Does it have a keyed ignition? Make sure the key is on and the thumb kill switch is on run as well. After those have been verified I'd check the fuel filter inside the gas tank to make sure it isn't blocked up with something. Take the fuel inline off the carb and then take the gas cap off the tank. When you turn the gas on you ought to get gas pouring out the line if there's nothing blocking it up.

the gas is on, theres no key just a kill switch, and the kill switch is on run, gas comes out of the line so the petcock filter isnt clogged,
i have no idea why its not running. could there be something wrong with the carb?

Then I'd definitely be looking at the carb (especially considering you had it apart cleaning it). Are your floats properly adjusted? Did the main happen to fall out into the bowl?

What do you mean by the main jet falling into the bowl? I was lookin at the float, and in the manual it doesnt say how to adjust it, do you know a way to adjust it? Thanks for your help so far man

Do you want the float to be heavier to let more gas in?
Also, is there "good" gas in it. By that , i mean, is the good octane gas in it, or race gas? I would try that first.

there is good gas in it, the right octane, it shouldnt have to run on race gas or nething like that, I think your right, it has to let more gas in, im not sure how to adjust it though, im gonna take it apart in a few minutes, thanx

Remember, there are passages inside the carburetor.

Make sure that there is nothing actually lodged INSIDE of the carburetor.

Yea there could be something in it, when i had my blaster one time when i had my airfilter in my air box I put the screw back in to hold the filter on & forgot to tighten it all the way down past hand tight & the screw came out & got stuck in the carb & it didnt run too well either:D

Id recommend taking the carb completely off, taking it completely all apart and dipping it in some carb cleaner. Or, you can get those nifty aerosol cans of carb. cleaner. If that doesnt do it, i know a rigging trick on floats, but i wouldnt do it unless you dont have a choice(i.e , out on a trail ride.)
