I've had my wheeler for a year or two now and I never really thought about it but I've never changed the oil filter, as a matter of fact, I couldn't even find one on it. all I do is change the oil on a regular basis. it's a 96 300ex. is there a filter on it? where is it?

yes it has a filter. If your sitting on the bike its on the right side, there is a round thing with three small bolts in it, the filter is in there. You can get filters about anywhere...

ummm haha.... thats kinda funny.... but any way... the oil filter is on the right side of the motor... theere is a round smaller piece that sticks out... it has two bolts on it... and when you put a new one in make sure you have the rubber o-ring on the outside facing the cover..

I'm going to try and pretend that you didn't just ask/say that:huh But if you did, it is on the right side of the motor, there are 3 bolts that hold the cover on.

P.S. you need a manual!!!!!!

make sure you dont over-tighten the bolts, broke the small one off my ex, piece was stuck inside the threads, very hard to get out

I have a k&n and clean it regularly, I just didn't know about the oil filter. I just picked up a new one and changed it about 10 minutes ago. needless to say it needed changed. thanks for the help guys. now to my next question, will 10w-30 work fine or should I buy a "atv specific" oil. I understand that it's the same oil in the engine as in the tranny that's why I'm asking. if I guy atv oil will it make my shifts smoother or not make any difference at all?

since my topic was "please don't flame" I will take my own advice and spread my knowledge. it's like an air filter...for oil. it filters out all the foreign objects(dirt, metal shavings-hopefully not) that may end up in your oil. thus protecting your engine from damage by these particles.

Cals, there you have it. You don't know how fortunate you are to have a guy like this around to let you in on these secrets. But, the next time a question like this comes out of you he might not take his own advice. Flaming might be involved.

You might want to do a search on friction modifiers! There is a difference in regular motor oil and oil designed for motor/tranny quads.;)
