i want more top speed and i kno only way to do that is bigger tires or larger front sprocket.. if i put on a 16t front sprocket would it MAJORLY bog my quad down ?! or would 22inch rears give me more top speed? or those two things combined?!:ermm:

y r u soo interested in going fast? speed isnt that important. its how fast you get to you top speed that is important (accelleration) how often and where do you even need to get a quad up to 70 mph?

either one will make you faster, but I wouldn't do both

I would just go to 16t (a lot cheaper, then buying new tires)

I am probably goin to 22inch tires, then droping to 14t to get ground clearance (I want to keep the power on the bottom end)

If you are not in a rush to do this, I will test it with 22 and 15t and tell you how much you loose on the bottom (befor I switch to 14t)

when i got my 400ex the guy that had it before me put 22'' mudlights on it. They are pretty gigantic but if you are wantin top speed i had a grizzly 660 behind me and i pulled away from him on top end his was maxed out at 69 and i still didn hit the rev limiter. just my input.

my gearing is 15/37 and I think is a good set-up. I can run to 118km/h (GPS) in cut-off...

That's probably because it was not on teh compression stroke when the valves were adjusted so they are WAY out of whack. I'd recheck them.

I just recently adjusted mine as part of the 1st servicing and I followed the manual to the T.

Tell me if I did anything wrong...

I lined up the timing mark on the compression stroke. The manual said that on the compression stroke, the rockers will have a slight play in them, where otherwise they won't have any play.

I used my feeler gauge and loosened each one up, one at a time and tighted back up until a felt a slight drag on the feeler gauge as I slid it back and forth. Tightened the adjuster lock nut back up and did that for all 8 valves (in and exh).

boy, i wish my ex was lucky enough to have 8 valves!!

you need to make sure the valves feel correct after you tighten down the 10mm lock nut too. most of the time they tend to move on you and tighten up by torquing down that nut. also, your bike needs to be cold. so, don't ride your bike and then adjust the valves. let it sit over night and then check them.
