I have a 2004 400ex with a White Bros. Slip on, K&N Air filter, and it is jetted. I am wondering what the next thing i can do for a power increase is. Maybe a 416,426, or 440 kit?? If so are they reliable? I am not sure what i should do.

I would put a stage 2 hot cam and a 416

i would suggest scrolling to the top of the screen, finding the search button, and clicking on it.. when the page comes up, type into the box, what you are looking for, and whala, a wealth of information on what your asking.

I have the 416 and a stage 2 hotcam and i am not dissapointed in it. Deffinately go with that becuase it is all around great, it wont overheat, and it has some good power. Go with the 416.

if you are looking to do motor work then I would suggest the 416 kit stg 2 hot cam this is very reliable as long as you do your maintence. their are many options for the 400ex it just depends on what you want to spend :)

the biggest ones are to keep the airfilter clean and change the oil and filter often.

I HAD A 416 AND IT WOULD RUN RIGHT WITH A 440 TO THE FIRST TURN!!! :D THE SECOND TIME I REBUILT IT I PUT A 426 KIT IN IT AND WOW!!! IT WAS AWSOME AND RELIABLE, NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH EITHER ONE!!!

Someone told me about the WB 440 kit. Have you heard anything about it. They say it is reliable and fast. I mean i don't race so i wouldn't be putting a lot of stress on the motor. So i wouldn't have to rebuild, right. If i got one should i add a cam to it. Then other people tell me to put in a 416 and a stage two hotcam. All i'm worried about is reliability and quality, and of course power.

piston and cam should always be added together, one doesnt do much without the other. Just do a 416 or 426 that way you dont have to pay to ge the cylinder resleeved like the 440. Then put a drop in cam like a hotcam stage 2. Put an 11:1 piston kit in it and youll have a significant reliable power increase.

YOU REALLY DON'T WANT A 440 KIT, THE 416 AND 426 KITS REV FASTER, SMALLER SLUG TO TURN, AND IF YOU GO WITH A 416 KIT, YOU CAN STILL BORE IT TO A 426 LATER WITHOUT RESLEVEING THE CYLINDER.

WHERE SHOULD I GET THE 11:1 PISTON AND DO I NEED A RACE GAS TO GO IN IT?
DO I NEED A REV BOX TOO?

With a bike that new, why not just go with a stock bore 11:1 compression ratio piston? The cylinder would probably just need a light hone, if anything. You won't feel the difference compared to a 416, and you'll save yourself a $50 bore job (not to mention worrying about if it was done right). Match that up with an XR400 top end gasket set, a drop-in cam, and $10 worth of jets, and you'll have a whole new bike. You shouldn't need race fuel unless you'll really be pushing it (like climbing big dunes), and even then, you should only need to mix it 50/50 with super, so it's still affordable.

c&d Racing this site sponser can get you everything you need, any good bike shop should be able to do the bore job or send it out to who they trust for their work. The rev box makes the mods work better. 50/50 race gas and premuim is fine for 11:1 comp.
You have to send the new piston out with the cylinder to get bored. Go for the 416 , cam and rev box, if you got the money a port job and pipe will really wake it up. you'll love it.:D
