Hey, I'm new to this site but not riding. I've been riding for a long time and so has my son he's 11 now and has been riding since he was 4. I don't know much about racing in NC, we just moved here from TX so we don't know anyone. I guess I'm wondering what's the best way to get him started, I just thought we would go to some races and ask ?'s. Any suggestions. Thanks

buy him a trx90..Take him to a race and see if he likes it first. If he is a good rider and likes racing, start buying mods for it..pipe, tires/wheels, Shocks, etc....Thats the easiest way to do it....do you have any specific questions oyu need answered?

It's kind of funny he rides a 250ex now and he can rip. He loves riding and he asked me if he could start racing. Of course I said yes cause I always do (damn). I was looking and I guess the age he's at would put him in the 90cc class. I'd like to put him in that modified class but i haven't read the rule book yet so I don't know if it's gonna be fast enough for him, but I figure if he wins he'll like it.

Yeah the cc limit is stupid. Some kids are bigger and can handle more power.

Buy a built 300ex roller and throw a modded cr85 motor in it...

roostin_dale, I seen some stuff on that kind of set up. I was just wondering to myself if the bigger frame with that kind of motor would be a weight disadvantage for him.

actually, put it in the blaster frame, the blaster is lighter, you can also buy LT shock setups for the blaster. Build up the cr85 motor and it should pull it along pretty good..

if you are doing mx, check out these guys for a good chassis set up. they have plus 5 and 5/8th a-arms with 4:1 offset wheels, you will be right at 49.5 inches. they are also LT. www.snydermotorsports.net

Laegers also makes a nice set of lt a-arms, but they are plus 3. i use them for XC and they work great

i would put the 90 motor in a 300 of a blaster that way when he it 14 he can race that class with just a motor switch

a trx 90 motor wont pull such a big quad very well, the 85cc bike motors will pull it better. All you have to do for the bike motors is fab some special mounts that bolt onto the orginal mounts. So when he turns 13 he can remove those mounts and put the 300ex or blaster motor back in it for the Youth production class.
