I notice that when I land sometimes, the shocks feel like they bottom out. These are maybe 3-4 foot high jumps, nothing spectacular.

I weigh 200 pounds and I have the shocks at the factory setting on the 2nd notch.

I am worried that if I keep on allowing the shocks to bottom out that it will eventually start to crack/damage the frame.

Is there anything I can do to make the bike more capable for my size without spending an arm and a leg?

Would 450r shocks help at all?

alot of people use 450R shocks on their 400EX now. they go for around 200-250$ a set. Mabye take a spanner wrench and stiffen your shocks to the fullest. ull know when u bottom out when you hear that horrible clank sound

you could also buy a set of works or elka rec series shocks for under 500 bucks too. This way they are made for your machine, set up for your weight, and they will work so much better.

Save your money and go with the works shocks the Black Widows are sick! If I was you I would save and buy them you wont regret them plus they look great.

Jeff at the Quadshop will probably see this, but he can say the samething that a search would tell you.. The 450r shocks are not valved for your 400. Could be worse on you in the long run.

Move the shocks up a notch and try that. I only weighed 150 when 130 when I got my 400 and I had them on the stiffest setting. I weigh 180 now and use works triple rates.

I'm not trying to start anything, but it only prolongs a busted shock mount with aftermarket shocks on it. I know several people that have went thru the fun of welding it back together. The 400 is known for doing this AFTER a good amount of years put in the machine and the type of riding its been thru. I have a '99 ( with custom axis shocks that have been on it from day one )that spent the first 4 years of its life at the MX track and its just starting to crack. All you have to do is gusset the frame in the area where the shock bolts on and you should be ok. Sorry if I stepped on anybodys toes, didn't mean to.

Hmmm, I have an 04' and I weigh 228 lbs. I bottomed a bit but cranked the preload right up, and stiffened the rear too, now I never bottom. But the highest air I feel comfortable with is like 3-4 feet. I killed my Blaster with 8 feet, but thats a waaay different bike.

go to your local ATV store or shop and get them to revalve it for your weight and riding style. ;)

When i race stock 400ex i was doing 40 foot doubles and the frame kept hittin the ground. I then got TCS and havent had a problem since

HAHAHAHAHAH! That's the best lie yet! Get a life poser.

this is not possible. your shocks can not bottom out far enough to make the frame hit the ground. if you want to make yourself seem good then think about the B.S. that you are telling other riders before you tell them. we are not complete idiots. try again buddy.

You have got to have the toughest stock suspension Honda ever put out, or the ability to make all of your non-riding friends believe this crap. I'm sure you have pictures of this, and we deserve the right to see them.

Stock 400ex front shocks are not rebuildable so a revalve is out of the question. Now if you were referring to the 450R shocks on the 400ex, then I have heard of a few people getting them revalved for the 400
