I have always ran the Honda 85/80 W Gear oil that is specifically made for TRX250R and CR transmissions. I have always had very good luck with it.

The HONDA service maunal states that you are to use 10W-40 filled to the bolt hole on the rt side of the case.

Drain
Remove bolt
Fill until comes out.
Seal

i use Honda 85/80 W in my R. You should use a heavier oil like this. It will make the engine last longer. Also if you do use this oil you should allow the engine to warm up gradually so that it is able to heat up and flow right.

You guys would be a whole lot better if you would leave that damm check bolt alone !

Measure out 700cc or ml and pour it in! You are starving the clutch and transmisson of vital fluid when you use the check oil hole to fill !

The oil will run out of the hole before it is completly full!

That check hole is there so you can check the oil if you are not sure if the trans has any oil after they sit in the garage for 6 months!

Since our "R' s don't sit that long there is no need to ever remove that bolt and chance breaking it off or stripping it out!

You guys would be wise to listen to the voice of experience. Measure it out and pour it in, I use the Honda trans oil also.
