i believe steel wool will work good. I tried the whole sanding and high temp paint deal once. It looked awesome for about 15 minutes. It then started to all burn off. I believe that the sparks pipe is stainless steel (not sure). When i went to paint the header I had I bead blasted it. It looked really nice, i should have left it like that instead of using the high temp paint. it probably would have looked better in the end. heres a pic of the head pipe after i painted it.

whatever you do don't use steel wool. . steel wool is steel and particles will transfer from it to your header and cause more rust. . try a scotch pad or sand paper something of that nature. . later
