saw an idiot blow a motor today

i was ridin my 400 down the road and a kid with a piped 400 pulls up next to me and looks over i was in mid 4th i pined it and got ahead of him in 5th and then i slow back down he comes up passes me so i get back on it hard and im geting pretty close to him he has stock gearing and im runing a 16t up front so i have the top speed advantage. right before im about to pass him he has it all out in fith and i heard a wierd clanking sound and a bunch of smoke comes pouring out his pipe. he starts slowin down to pull over. and you could hear it seize up just a sudden loud clank and nothin else. im laughin thinkin man thats gonna be expensive. this was all done on a back contry road with no other traffic or people.

lol, i never got a warning, just at WOT and went from 8500 rpm's to 0 in about .2 seconds:blah: :D

you got me a lil confused here :p so how did he blow the motor? was it because he was going pined in 5th? or was it because the stock gearing or what?

it can happen to anyone, i dropped a valve on a well maintained motor when i was in 3rd about 1/2 throttle,:ermm:

i guess it could be kinda funny seeing a guy blow an engine, but i dont think that makes him an idiot:confused:

was he running the quad with old or not enough oil?

he probably blew some rings and when he slowed down he was still in 5th gear and it died

well the stock gearing and holding it pined wont blow it in 5th... i've held mine in 5th for about 2 miles strait and mine was fine... he probly didnt check the oil before every ride and blew ran her dry... i cant call him an idiot becasue i did that myself to my xr100 about 4 years ago

you gotta be really dumb to hold it wot in 5th for close to a 1/4 of a mile your just asking for it when you do that. i dont know about his oil level but i have seen the way he rides it WOT down the road for miles. its got a pipe and a big gun rev box so im guessin with that rev box it put the motor to its limit. all you heard was clanking and smoke pouring out the exaust and the a sudden loud bang or clank sound and nothing else.
