cracked swingarm

well i just was cleaning my quad and i noticed that i cracked my swingarm right underneath the airbox there is a a crack in the shape of an X in the center. can i weld this or add a plate

you are better off looking for a good one on ebay. they can be welded but they are very thin so watch for burn through when welding

If it's still under warranty or if you deal with a good dealership Yamaha should cover it and replace it.

They changed something on the 05s, find a 05 take off from a MXer.
I had 2 04s, go bad, 05s, no problem.

For 2005 yamaha beefed up the swingarm, theres lots of pros running a stock swinger.

Haircutt the YFZ is a nice quad.......leave it be. I agree with others find a take off 05 swinger and you'll be fine, they are better than the 04's.

The swingarm cracks like that because the chain is too tight. If you haven't removed or relocated your roller, that is why it broke. Also if you let your axle go forward on one side you will apply pressure uneven and crack it on oneside or the other. I broke my first swingarm as you did. The second one lasted almost a year and then cracked on the sprocket side just above the adjuster tab. I am not sure if the 05's are any different, but there isn't a real problems with the 2004 model.

Totally clueless.
Stock for stock honda does not even come close to matching up, mod for mod, still not close, except the Honda factory guys, who have R&D and unlimited budgets.

Now to the subject, Their are some cheap YFZ swngarms, and aftermarket Swingarms on ebay, from companies like Legacy, Jennssen, Lonestar, burgard ect, so no need to wait long to ride.
You can weld it up if your just rec riding, but if you race you must replace for your own good. Good luck out there.
