Ok Guys, I need ur opinions. Im going to be selling my ranger soon and i just wanted to know what you guys thought would be my best bet as far as getting a used truck? I want a full sized but sumthing thats good on gas. I'm open to ford, chevy, and dodge. I'm looking to spend around $8-9000 on one.

(PS, im doing this to get back in the sport!)

If you want something that saves gas, no bs your ranger would be better, I'd recomend a late 90s or earley silveraldo :)

Get a 96-98 Chevy Silverado with a 5.7 liter Vortec. They get good gas mileage and have great power. The engines if maintained right will easily reach 250,000. They also are right in your price range and believe me they would be the nicest truck for the money.

i've had 3 f150 fords with a 4.2 V6. they have been super reliable
and get about 18mpg overall. plenty of power for everyday driving, not really built for towing anything over about 4000 lbs though.

don't be stupid like me and get a gas guzzling v-8... i'm really payin for it right now...

v-8s are to much money because of the price of gas right now... i know my pockets are empty!!

What in the world! Your truck is starting to sound like a dakota, not enough engine to move the truck= gas drinker.

What type of engine are you running, if its a i-4 or v-6 you should be getting atleast 16-19, if not higher like srh said.

In a fullsized the Chevy 5.7L gets the best mileage for big v8's unless you go to a 99 or up with the 5.3L.. In the smaller v8's I think chevy still gets better milage.

my first truck was a 03, F150 with the 4.2, i had the 8ft bed and 4x4, find a Short bed 2x4 F150 with the 4.2 that would prolly get the best gas for a full size. mine got about an average of 18mpg if u dont have a lead foot.

i now drive a 99' S10 ext cab 2x4 with the 2.2 liter and a 5spd. i get 20mpg when acting like i own a viper. Im sure if i drove it right id get about 23-25.

I Have the 4.0 v6. On thier website, ford's saying the 2005 ranger is getting 17 city/22 highway mpg. I have a k&n and evern that should help! So it says on the box, lol. But this is killin me, i feel like i can see the needle just drop!! And plus, i wanna ride so bad so i gotta get rid of this ranger!

psh! i deal with 5-6mph so don't cry

get a diesel, fuel costs more but gets better gas mileage

put a 302 in your ranger

get a F-150, for me a truck is long bed and 4x4 but 2x4 will give you better mileage

vortec 5.7 GM with 3.42 axle gears should get you 17-18 on the highway, the 5.3 about the same, maybe just a little better mileage but more power, get a 97-98 with a vortec you won't regret it, unless gas gets alot more expensive

my dad has driven (he put 170k+ on each truck)
95 chevy 350
91 ford 302
98 dodge 318
04 chevy 327

the chevy's have gotten by far the best mileage, right at 18 in both on the highway, dodge was 15, ford was about 15 too

my 97' 5.7 vortec has been very good to me as far as gas mileage.....man, this thread could turn bad any minute now(ford vs. chevy vs. dodge)

Toyota t100 with a v6 :blah: if you want fullsize or a toyota pickup/tacoma with a v6 if you want mid size. The tacomas get about 22mpg with the v6 and the pickups get around 18 :ermm:

exactly, if it was me id get a 97-99 f150 5 speed 4x4 with like 100,000 miles on it. excellent gas mileage and run good.

whatever you do, dont get a 96-98 dodge 1500 with a 5.9 in it...they struggle to get 10 to the gallon.

My dealership that i work at told me, that if you buy a fullsize truck, all of which are equal condition, milage, options, etc...

Chevy is most expensive, then ford, then dodge is the cheaper of the 3. The difference is about 500 a piece. But thats just what resale values are around where i live.

My 91 Silverado i bought in January has a 5.7, and i love it! It does have close to 160,000 on it, but i've seen one run to 275,000 once before, and still running strong. I got a good deal on it too, and it has rims, lowering kit, and exhaust with headers, bunch of other mods too! It isn't exactly a fuel economy vehicle, but it does ok. I made a trip recently, and if i calculated it right, i got around 17 m.p.g. pretty much the whole time. I don't think thats too bad for a v8. I just went 1 week on a quarter of a tank too, driving to and from school (a few miles away), and to and from work (bout 5 miles away) every day.

you should be able to get a 97 or newer 2 wheel drive single cab shortbox ranger for 2 grand or under for std, and 3 grand or under for auto, long box single cab looks crab but my shortbox looks great...just need to throw nice wheels on there and blang blang
