Hey guys, I just took the hardtop and doors off of my jeep for the 1st time cuz tomorrow is looking to be a nice day. My question is, is it illegal in NY state to drive w/o the doors? And how dangerous is it to do so, its pretty weird feeling haha

on my 89 the mirrors are on the doors but i still tide with mine off in the summer.. havent been pulled over yet.. hahah

On my friends wrangler has the mirrors on the doors it is a 2003 or 04.
And yeah it does feel weird with no doors.

I had the same question so I called the local PD. They said that even if the mirrors are on the doors, if you have a rear view mirror you will be fine. The Jeep is the only vehicle you can take doors off of though. You notice that big lip by your feet, I think that might be why (saftey issue). Just make sure you wear a seatbelt. It is a little creepy at first, but it's VERY addicting. I had mine off earlier this year when it was 35º. Check with your local PD to see for sure. Different states might have different laws.

when I had my cherokee I always had the doors off in the summer.

It shouldnt be illegal.....I have a 76 jeep, and it never had the doors on during the summer. The mirrors werent on the doors though. It is so awesome not having the doors/top on....but i would invest in a bikini top so the sun isnt beating down on you. And if feels a lot safer with a full cage, i rode around in my dads jeep that he had and it didnt have a cage, it just wasnt the same but as long as you are not stupid its all good. Enjoy it, its hella fun cruising with the top off

i put a bikini top on my fj40...the best investment so far haha....anyway try putting the windshield down...it feeles soooo wierd

On our Jeep, we had a thick safety strap with a snap on the end that went across where the door opening was. It was cool riding with no doors, but that big strap sure made me feel safer.

They also make bikini half doors that would make you feel safer, but i never had a problem with the feeling safe issue since it does have a full cage.

completely legal in new york as far as i no my dads always had the doors off all the ones hes had n i always see em off on jeeps shouldlt be a prob

that sucks. Do you need to like custom fab side mirrors if you want to roll around like that? Or do you have to have doors? My cousin eric doesnt leave his doors on his CJ. i guess i never paid attention to if it had side mirrors or not.
