problem with installing new perch

ok so i got my cr250 clutch lever and perch in the mail today. install is going good so far when i go to put the clutch cable into the new assembly. it wont reach the cutout for the cylindrical-thing on the end of the clutch cable. i can squeeze it in there, but it would go through the little "ditch" it needs to. also, if i WERE to stretch and muscle it in there, isnt the clutch cable supposed to have no tension on it while the clutch isnt pulled in? what do you think im doing wrong?

down under th header theres another spot to adjust the cable at. loosen the nuts on that to slide the housing back and itll give you more cable. make sure you tighten them back up though. not fun out on the trails when those come loose.:p
