I remember TC426EX mentioning in another thread that he was in fact running a stock rod temporarily with that hi-comp piston. That's why I bet it was a good lesson learned for him :blah: .

These pics are a good reminder to those who chince out when it comes to those little "insurance" parts.

That sucks horribly, I'm lucky that didn't happen to me when my piston seized and the rod snapped on my Banshee two summers ago!

 It's probably weird looking because there's a huge hole in the engine and the starter was ripped off?

look at the cam chain tensoner....its on the wrong side for an ex motor...

Your a good example of what happens when you dont beef up engine parts correctly... Hope all the guys who wanna go big without HD Rods will learn from this pic..

Where did you see a 400ex motor on the other side? I tore down over 25 of these last year and everyone was on that side?

Tc426: I have a good set of 400 center cases with all bearings except mains I will sell if you need them still?

ok...my mistake, its been about 3 years since ive even taken a close look at an ex motor....

Yes, that in fact IS my 426 motor! Believe me I wish that it wasnt, but it is... The cam tensioner is on the right side man. This pic was taken from the back obviously, not the front. You can still see the 2 tabs bolted to the center cases that once held my starter in place. The opening you see besides the hole is the intake port...

Mike Boone: PM me with a price for the cases man... I got a complete 2003 bottom end on the way minus the clutch and clutch cover (which I dont need anyway), but I would still possibly be interested. I want to have a set of spare center cases actually.
I ended up going with the Carrillo H-Beam rod like I shouldve in the first place. Laz at GT Thunder is hookin me up with a killer price to install my HD rod and true + weld the new crank up so hopefully I wont have any more problems in the future when I go 13:1 on this rebuild  Im lucky I can do all the work myself on this engine, otherwise who knows what a dealership would charge me to do this....

Lesson Learned: HD "insurance" parts are worth every *%&#$! PENNY!!!

Yeah unfortunately it was, (kick myself repeatedly)... Notice thats the only thing missing from my sig. I split my cases in the middle of last summer to replace the shift shaft and threw a brand new stock rod in there. I was told that a HD rod was reccomended but not necessary, so I decided not to wait on one and spend the money + proceeded to just rebuild my engine and start ripping again. I really knew better and I guess I was just merely "hoping" something like this didnt happen.

we were all hoping something didnt happen after a rebuild:ermm: my damn weak valve is gonna cost me

Laz did the same to my crank as well. Trued and welded with an HD rod is the best way to go! :macho

Heres some more pics for your viewing enjoyment...

Cylinder (notice the snapped rod piece still attached to the skirt/wrist pin as well as the decimated sleeve and broke fins...

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid164/pd69824d9456eb59fdb3db6f2978f4764/f489b3a7.jpg

Heres a shot of my head... Notice the 2 bent oversize intake valves...

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid164/pc62b5924070db0dc041ef98bd717fb53/f489b3af.jpg

Here is a shot of the bottom end with the top end off... Check out the snapped rod still vertically jammed into the center cases (making prying the cylinder off a bigger chore than it had to be)...

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid164/p75c323ef59cb38759d7811486a34120b/f489b3ab.jpg

So learn from my example and spend the extra loot to build your motor the right way...

Damn dude, looks like the only thing you have left of your engine is the head, cam, cover, clutch and stator... The Cylinder, Piston, Rod, and bottom end look to all be trashed. Glad I got a HD rod in my 416!
