I'll skip all the ridiculous detail on WHY, and focus on the question. I would like to put the OEM 88 style fenders on an 86 frame. The main difference is the headlight, as far as I know. Will it bolt on? Are there any obstacles?

Here is a pic of my friends 87r with 88 plastic. His stock 87 headlight is in the 88 hood, I'm pretty sure you just need to shave a little plastic off of the stock housing until it fits. We did the same thing to my 89 when I bought it because it didn't have a light.

I don't have a problem buying a complete headlight assembly to match my plastics, I was just wondering if there was some wierd complication with the different styles.

But the whole point is having the stock 88/89 headlight mounted in the plastics instead of on the handlebars. (because it looks gay mounted in the handlebars).

My engine theory and knowledge is solid, and I can tell you almost anything that applies to my own quad, and most of those things also apply to other years. But I don't know all the little specifics because I've only ever owned one 250r (an 86). I don't even know how the stock plastics mount up, because I have never owned stock plastics. I can't even tell you how the airbox goes on, because my quad doesn't have an airbox.

In all reality, I don't even know how the stock 86 headlight mounts on, because I've never owned one. I've got aftermarket lights on mine.

if you get stock plastics you will definately see why OEM are the best.

you can actually run the front plastics with no bolts(if the fenders are cut) I ran mine with no bolts and i never had problems. the grommets are placed so well theres no need to bolt it on.

EDIT

oh yea and i like my head mounted lights ;)

They all use the same plug/wiring. The 86/87 lights are just alot easier to find and seem to be alot less $$$. I was assuming that you had your stock headlight.

I've collected enough spare and secondary parts, I'm thinking about building a second quad for my girlfriend. But if I do, I'm going to go with an 89 frame and swinger, so I'll use my existing 86 frame for her quad.

However, if I build her a quad, she wants the 88/89 style plastics, and I wasn't sure if the different headlight styles would cause conflicts trying to put the 89 plastics on the 86 frame. And since I would have to buy and OEM headlight, I would just go ahead and find an 89 headlight.

Anybody know where I can find an 89 rolling chassis?
