If it's not leaking than the only logical explaination I can think of is that it's burning it. It may not smoke or smoke as bad when it's not under load(you're not riding it). What oil are you running in it?

would that really make any type of a difference with it burning oil?

it might possibly be burning it becuase it kinda smells like burning oil some of the time when i rid but it doesnt smoke at all even at a cold start up. wat gives:confused: does this sound like the rings ?

clean out your oil pan and then drain your oil out of the motor and oil tank. then fill old oil quarts up to masure how much oil is in the wheeler. some thing could be holding the oil in the motor and give you a bad reading (like oil filter in wrong)

the 400ex's tend to use a bit of oil when ran hard if you use 10-40 or thinner weights. when i switched to mobil 1 15-50, i never had any problems. just warm the bike up a little more each time because that oil is more viscous.

If its not leakin, then it has to be burning. My motor was getting really bad at the end of last season, But i changed shaffers (sp) 15w40, or a 20-50 and it seemed to work really well, And the oil doesnt break down like mobile did for me.
