I have a 2003 400ex and was woundering if anyone else has a really stiff throttle. Is their any way to fix this problem or what is wrong with it. any input would be nice

make sure your cable is lubed GOOD,dont use wd40 as it is water based,it wont last,i like to use maxima chain/cable lube,it seems to work pretty good.:) if that doesnt help try those lever extensions,otherwise ride more often to build up your thumb muscles..:)

Ive used cable lubes... they ease it a little but not for long, replacing the throttle cable is the best move. If you know how, take apart the carb and clean up all the moving parts, I polished the drum and many other parts in it and mine was alot easier.

Well, on my 250r, I put a 250x thumb throttle on it (same as 400) and I just left the little spring that goes inside the thumb throttle body. Mine was so easy to push after that. and I don't think it hurts it either...

take the plate off the top of the throttle and there is a little gold colored spring in there, take a pair of needle nose pliars and rip it out. you wont feel any resistance change of the throttle cable but when you go ride, you wont get the sore thumb. i just did this at the dunes and i was shocked the difference.
