rear brake caliper fell off

Well i was riding today and discovered that my rear brake caliper fell off and was hanging on by the hose. It got hung up in between the rotar and the skid plate and slit the hose. Luckily I didnt lose the caliper. Any reason why this happend?? Kinda seems weird to me...

1. Someone was working on the rear end maybe replacing the pads or something else and didn't put it back together correctly.
