I have an ex with a cracked case sitting in my garage next to my 250r trike. Has anyone done this swap or seen it? I' like to try it for a project. Thinking on frame mods including Motor mounts, radiator placement. The ex has a couple of extras, Works suspension, durablue axle, tag bars, nerfs, pipe. The r is .80 over ,reeds, head work. Even with stock pipe it fricken flies. It would probably be cheaper to find another bike, but i'd love to bring the ex back from the dead...

hrmm.. before you start, what year 250r is it.. if it is 81-84, it wont work, due to the left side drive.. if it is 85-86, a liquidcooled motor, then it will work, and it isnt that hard to do

It is a liquid cooled motor, I think it's an 86 I have to check the tag. The sprocket is on the same side as the ex (left). Most shops I talk to say It's a big deal," ohh..I gotta weld this, shave that." It's a project, i'm not gonna be afraid of a little welding. Also are some of the parts on the r interchangeable with the ex? Like the axle and carrier. They look pretty close.
Thanks for the help
Dan

Thanx for the pics Pvt. Did mounts line up? What pipe and silencer did you use. Any mods to make it fit?

Service Honda's 250r is a joke, for the price you would pay, you can have a true pro level R. Rather than a cr250 jammed into a 400ex chassis.

I only call it a 05 cause thats when i built it, I assembled the bike from all parts so there really wasnt a year to begin with. When im in the open my 02 400ex cant touch the hybrid but once we get in the trees the 4stroke whips it.

By the way i would trade for a raptor or 4x4 quad or modest pile of cash!

man i wouldn't waste my time on a raptor if i had to get anything other then a Honda it would be a yfz450 they are fast..

I agree that yzf is a weapon ,but my kids are riding more with me so i need a SLOWER bike that dosent mind putting along with minis. my stock ex is good but reverse would be nice.

AS long as its liquid cooled and sprockets line up I say go for it.
A little welding cutting and some brackets and such you will have a sick quad.
I've seen cr250's in a 300ex .
Post pics if you decide to do it.

hey i think i may have a solution to your kick starter problem have you tried a blaster kick starter..... i think the blaster kick starter will be a nice short kicker so you dont hit the rear fender.... well when you try somethings let me know how things work out cause i actually wated to do either a 250r motor or go crazy with a cr500 motor
