03 Z400 purchase

I have a chance to pick up an 03 Z400 with ITP Hole shot tires, Nerf bars, jet kit, Yoshimura exhaust, K&N filter, Suzuki aluminum front bumper for $3500.

The question I have is that I've heard there are frame issues (cracking at the front shock mount points) and complaints about reliablity.

I don't want to pay the $$$ if I need to repair the frame and/or keep repairing issues all the time.

Help!

The frame has had some problems but you will be ok unless doing huge jumps. You can always gusset the frame. I have an 03 and have not had any problems with it. It has been a great bike....I think the reliablity is great! All Ive done is change the oil and Ive had it for 2.5 years.

That is hell ov a good deal if it is in good shape. As for the frame it will be ok as long as you dont hit big jumps but any frame wiil crack eventually if you hit big jumps. I picked up my 03 for 3,500 and it is in showroom condition.

The quad is in good shape...from what I can tell. He is selling it because they just bought a new house and need the $$$.

so whats considered a big jump.....Getting 5 feet of air or 30 feet?

IF your scared about your frame just get a gusset job just to be safe. Bare performance sells gusset kits for the z. You just have to weld them on. We made our own gussets for the front shock mounts and so far they're holding up real well

You really need to gusset the frame on the gen 1 quads. My buddy had a crack about 80% of the diameter on the L/H down tube where it meets the shock mount right at the top area of the weld. The crack was completely through the tube and was barely hanging on. I would do a thorough frame inspection if I were gonna buy a Z and would ask for a price adjustment based on any cracking I found. All of this IMHO.
