Some advice PLEASE!

I just got a well used 400ex the guy told me the cam chain guides needed to be replaced I pulled the top cam cover off and the cam looks like it has real deep worn spots in it and so do the rocker arms,could that have been all the engine noise he was hearing? and I heard you could put a dirtbike cam chain in it,is that true if so which bike? is there a way to tell if the chain is actually bad?

cam from xr 400 and hold on to your ***** when you look for the cam chain slides i just got $90 worth in 2 parts also while you got it that far put in crf 450 timing chain too most likelt if it looks bad cam wise you need chain too
