on the 400ex, does the UNI come with a cage or support to replace the stock steel cannister?

no. u just reuse the stock one

Uh......mine came with a cage. The stock one has a solid back piece and the UNI uses an open end for more flow.

That's really the big advantage of getting the UNI over stock. The UNI is a longer filter with an open end. If you used the stock cage with the UNI, you wouldn't be taking full advantage of your filter.

the cage that comes with the uni will flow much more than the stock one. however, the stock one has a lot of support to it.
