Found a good deal on a 97' Dodge Ram w/ 55,000mi on it for $6700 through a dealer auction. Its got the 318 v-8, 4 wheel drive and its an SLT model so it has power everything.

My concern is that I'm all too aware that Dodge has an issue with poorly built transmissions. :( Anyone here have a Ram in these years that can share their experience with me? Id greatly appreciate it.:chinese:

my dad has a 2000 dodge ram 4x4. thing runs great and has been for quite a few years. doesnt burn any oil, no transmission problems or anything of that sort. its gone threw and pulled anything weve thrown at it. the only thing is the breaks squeek a little bit but i think chrysler has that problem on some models dont they?

My dad has a 97 RAm with 180,000 miles on it and it still runs liek its brand new and still looks it too. Thats a good deal on that 97 your talkin about. my dad bought his brand new for like 24000. He uses it to haul a trailer for his business.

I had a 96 1500 w/ 75,000 miles and no probs and I now have a 01 2500 w/ 14000 miles and no probs. Go to a auto pricing guide or something and get a price. What kind of warranty do you get 30, 60 or 90 day?

I have a friend that litterally beats the piss out of his ram mudding and boonying. Today he rip one of his duals off boonying! It still runs great except he broke his steering stabilizer.

My dad has a 97 dakota SLT thats a 318, automatic, 4x4. It has about 81,000 miles and has had no problems so far except It eats up breaks. We haven't had any problems with the tranny and we pull 4 quads around all the time with it.

No problems yet (knock on wood). Come from a Mopar family, so we have no choice what to buy. Had my tranny fully flushed/new filter back in 2001 with around 50,000 miles on it. Have 76,000 on it now, runs fine. The key to the Dodges is the overdrive button, turn it OFF!!! You reallly don't need to use it unless you're on a highway or a long, flat , straight road. But you can't tell people how to drive, so to each his own. 1 other trick I learned is if you like to let your truck warm upand idle like I do here in the PA winters, keep it in neutral while it idles. The tranny lines are closed in Park/ open in Neutral to the radiator. So keep the fluid moving and cool! Hope this helps!!
